However, despite originally issuing the guidance, which urged donors to \u201clament, repent and apologize for biases or racist ideologies held and actions committed,\u201d the charitable organization denies the word-for-word reports on the contents of the guide,&nbsp;describing them as \u201csimply false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a November 25 update <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salvationarmyusa.org\/usn\/story\/the-salvation-armys-response-to-false-claims-on-the-topic-of-racism\/\">titled<\/a>, \u201cThe Salvation Army\u2019s Response to False Claims on the Topic of Racism,\u201d The Salvation Army reiterated that its primary goal is to \u201cpreach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe beliefs that motivate our service are based solely on the Bible, and that will never change,\u201d the organization said, accusing \u201csome individuals and groups\u201d of attempting to \u201cmislabel our organization to serve their own agendas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have claimed that we believe our donors should apologize for their skin color, that The Salvation Army believes America is an inherently racist society, and that we have abandoned our Christian faith for one ideology or another,\u201d it wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x\">\u201cThose claims are simply false, and they distort the very goal of our work,\u201d it claimed, emphasizing its belief that racism is \u201cfundamentally incompatible with Christianity, and that we are called by God to work toward a world where all people are loved, accepted, and valued\u201d: Our <a href=\"https:\/\/nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fs3.amazonaws.com%2Fcache.salvationarmy.org%2F7d3c015c-1af5-4211-830f-b7b0c6a65898_English%2BRacism%2BIPS.pdf&amp;data=04%7C01%7Cnick.wheeler%40use.salvationarmy.org%7Cb27a1a4908fd42218cd808d9b1d58f87%7C7f723060ac5c4464a3895f2bed4b4773%7C0%7C0%7C637736353092143659%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&amp;sdata=FWtlyNYpVMAHez%2B%2BKv%2BqNHz6%2BdDqHT2nvZ3GW6Xd6Ag%3D&amp;reserved=0\">positional statement on racism<\/a> makes this clear. These beliefs and goals are critically important because we know that racism exists, and we are determined to do everything the Bible asks of us to overcome it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"x\">The organization explained that it publishes internal study guides on \u201cvarious complex topics to help foster positive conversations and grace-filled reflection among Salvationists,\u201d which is where the controversial guide \u201cLet\u2019s Talk About Racism\u201d comes into the picture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x\">The organization said the guidance was \u201cissued as a voluntary resource\u201d and continued to defend it, casting blame on \u201csome\u201d for ignoring \u201caccurate information\u201d it has provided.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x\">\u201cAt the same time, International Headquarters realized that certain aspects of the guide may need to be clarified.&nbsp;Consequently, for both reasons, the International Social Justice Commission has now withdrawn the guide for appropriate review,\u201d The Salvation Army announced, claiming that it is not telling people how to think and reemphasizing that it is simply committed to the model set by Jesus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x\">However, the most controversial aspects of the guidance, which cited an \u201curgent&nbsp;need for Christians to evaluate racist attitudes and practices in light of our faith,\u201d&nbsp;were not addressed in The Salvation Army\u2019s pointed statement.<\/p>\n<p>The guidance, developed by the organization\u2019s&nbsp;International Social Justice Commission, listed goals in the guidance, urging donors to \u201cunderstand and acknowledge the definitions of race and racism and how the social construct of race has affected society\u201d and, ultimately, \u201clament, repent and apologize for biases or racist ideologies held and actions committed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The guide also instructed readers to \u201cstop denying the existence of individual and systemic\/institutional racism,\u201d \u201cstop denying that White privilege exists,\u201d and&nbsp;\u201cstop trying to be \u2018colorblind&#8217;\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12\">\n<p>While this might sound helpful, it actually ignores the God-given differences we all possess, as well as the beautiful cultures of our Black and Brown brothers and sisters. Instead of trying to be colorblind, try seeing the beauty in our differences, and welcome them into your homes churches and workplaces. Being colorblind also ignores the discrimination our Black and Brown brothers and sisters face and does not allow us to address racism properly.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It also asserted that individuals can perpetuate racism in \u201cconscious and unconscious ways\u201d and called for \u201crepentance\u201d and a \u201cheartfelt apology,\u201d as such is necessary, the guide suggested, to \u201cmove towards racial reconciliation\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>We recognize that it is a profound challenge to sit on the hot seat and listen with an open heart to the hurt and anger of the wounded. Yet, we are all hardwired to desire justice and fairness, so the need to receive a sincere apology is necessary.
