Go Figure.\u201d The Daily Wire\u2019s Michael Knowles <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michaeljknowles\/status\/1465366354178023436\">tweeted<\/a>, \u201cThe new CEO of Twitter, ladies and gents.\u201d Newsbusters\u2019 Curtis Houck <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurtisHouck\/status\/1465365918326923273\">added<\/a>, \u201cThat, ladies and gentlemen, is the kind of thing a racist would say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Agrawal was born in India, and joined Twitter as a Software Engineer in 2011 after a background in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay and Stanford University. He became Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in 2017.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHello team,\u201d Dorsey wrote in an email to Twitter employees that was also posted on his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1465347002426867720\/photo\/1\">profile<\/a>. \u201cAfter almost 16 years of having a role at our company\u2026from co-founder to CEO to Chair to Exec Chair to interim-CEO to CEO\u2026I decided it\u2019s finally time for me to leave. Why?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of talk about the importance of a company being \u2018founder-led,\u2019\u201d he continued. \u201cUltimately I believe that\u2019s severely limiting and a single point of failure. I\u2019ve worked hard to ensure this company can break away from its founding and founders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dorsey then listed three reasons he believes \u201cnow is the right time\u201d to step down. The first reason was the elevation of Agrawal to CEO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first is Parag becoming our CEO,\u201d Dorsey explained. \u201cThe board ran a rigorous process considering all options and unanimously appointed Parag. He\u2019s been my choice for some time given how deeply he understands the company and its needs. Parag has been behind every critical decision that helped turn this company around. He\u2019s curious, probing, rational, creative, demanding, self-aware, and humble. He leads with heart and soul, and is someone I learn from daily. My trust in him as our CEO is bone deep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dorsey informed his employees that Agrawal would be starting as CEO immediately, and that Dorsey would continue to serve on the Twitter board through to the end of his term this coming spring to \u201chelp Parag and Bret with the transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd after that\u2026I\u2019ll leave the board,\u201d Dorsey wrote. \u201cWhy not stay or become chair? I believe it\u2019s really important to give Parag the space he needs to lead. And back to my previous point, I believe it\u2019s critical a company can stand on its own, free of its founder\u2019s influence or direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want you all to know that this was my decision and I own it. It was a tough one for me, of course. I love this service and company\u2026and all of you so much. I\u2019m really sad\u2026yet really happy. There aren\u2019t many companies that get to this level. And there aren\u2019t many founders that choose their company over their own ego.
