The meta story, meaning the all-encompassing narrative of Biden\u2019s presidency? What\u2019s the takeaway? What\u2019s the story about all the stories? What\u2019s the main impression you get from all the daily headlines and hate tweets? Is it America rebounding or is it America on the wrong track?\u201d Stelter asked. And according to at least one recent <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/shock-nbc-poll-shows-americans-have-lost-their-confidence-in-biden-chuck-todd-says\/\">NBC poll<\/a>, more Americans believe the latter \u2014 71% said they believe the United States is headed in the wrong direction.<\/p>\n<p>Stelter said that the first step was acknowledging just how much power the American media had in helping to shape that \u201cmeta story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe that\u2019s why so many liberals are so frustrated right now, worried about Biden\u2019s poll numbers, irritated at the media\u2019s framing and concerned that Biden isn\u2019t doing enough to shape his own story,\u201d Stelter continued, arguing that media outlets were effectively shouting down a president who wasn\u2019t doing a lot to drown them out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Biden\u2019s strategy is quiet, his detractors are trying to be loud, making the meta story about a guy who failed to deliver, and citing supply chain woes to make those tales sound real,\u201d Stelter added, saying that it no longer mattered if gas prices came down, store shelves were fully stocked, and packages were delivered on time \u2014 because the people would believe the stories rather than their own experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Stelter then pivoted to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/fox-news-has-a-relatively-small-base-credibility-among-a-minority-of-the-country-brian-stelter\/\">blame Fox News<\/a> directly, accusing the network of favoring \u201cfeelings over facts\u201d and saying, \u201cThis Fox banner sums up the network\u2019s meta story about Biden. Other banners refer to Biden\u2019s economic train wreck and failed agenda, crises \u2014 always plural, multiple crises on his watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stelter noted that Biden himself had spoken publicly about how his solutions were working \u2014 shipping containers are moving, he said \u2014 but his statements barely registered, and, \u201cAnyway, by the time that crisis recedes, Fox will be emphasizing a new emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stelter later conceded that Fox News\u2019 coverage was not the only complication facing President Biden \u2014 the fact that the media universe has changed around him, making it possible for anyone with a large enough social media following to change the narrative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[There\u2019s] something bigger going on here, something bigger than Biden. The media universe has fundamentally changed, or actually, it\u2019s better to say it is changing every day in ways that make America a different country to govern.
