We\u2019ll have to see how things roll out. Otherwise, we just can\u2019t say something and guess about it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Those remarks highlight concerns from critics, such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who have cautioned that public health officials will continue to move the goalposts in their effort to mandate the shot. Mere days ago, Fauci affirmed those suspicions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2021\/11\/24\/fauci-changing-definition-of-fully-vaccinated-to-include-boosters-is-being-evaluated\/\">admitting<\/a>&nbsp;that officials are evaluating changing the definition of fully vaccinated to apply only to those who also received a booster shot.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18337010\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"32\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/51326400547_371462654f_k.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18337010\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/51326400547_371462654f_k.png\" alt=\"Governor Ron DeSantis speaking with attendees at the 2021 Student Action Summit hosted by Turning Point USA at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida, on July 18, 2021.\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Governor Ron DeSantis (Gage Skidmore\/Flickr)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>When asked about breakthrough infections \u2014 infections contracted by people who have been vaccinated \u2014 Fauci said officials \u201creally need to find out when you do boost an individual, how long does that immunity last, both from a laboratory standpoint and from a protection standpoint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the one thing we want to make sure, now that we\u2019re getting full blown into the booster phase, we\u2019ve got to make sure we know what that means from a clinical standpoint,\u201d he said as Brennan pressed the White House medical adviser on why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seemingly not tracking breakthrough infections.<\/p>\n<p>Fauci simply said it is a \u201cvery complicated situation\u201d and suggested that the general public \u201cdoesn\u2019t hear yet in time things that are being collected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo there\u2019s a lot of data, clearly a lot of data, that\u2019s being collected by the CDC that people don\u2019t know about yet,\u201d he said, failing to sufficiently explain why comprehensive data on breakthrough infections is not easily accessible.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, Fauci added that the U.S. \u201ccertainly\u201d has the potential to go into a fifth wave of the virus but said it will \u201cbe dependent upon what we do in the next few weeks to a couple of months,\u201d pointing directly to vaccinations, despite the emergence of breakthrough infections:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"31\">\n<p>For example, we have now about 62 million people in the country who are eligible to be vaccinated, who have not yet gotten vaccinated. Superimpose upon that, the fact that, unquestionably, the people who got vaccinated six, seven, eight, nine, 10 months ago, we\u2019re starting to see an understandable diminution in the level of immunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>However, given the waning of immunity, right now boosters are going to be very important. A third shot for those who got the two mRNAs and another additional shot for those who got the J&amp;J. If we have a combination of getting as many people as we can get vaccinated as possible who have not yet gotten vaccinated, add on to it the children who are now eligible, the five to 11, there\u2019s twenty eight million of those, and getting the many, many people now, 70% of the entire population of adults has been vaccinated- about 80% has been vaccinated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf we do that successfully in a very intensive way, we can mitigate any increase,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CDC,&nbsp;62.8 percent of Americans five and older are <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#vaccinations_vacc-people-onedose-pop-5yr\">considered<\/a> fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public health officials may want to \u201cboost people intermittently\u201d with vaccines for the Chinese coronavirus, Dr. Anthony Fauci told Face the Nation\u2019s Margaret Brennan on Sunday.
