The patients were mostly healthy men who arrived \u201cfeeling so tired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Approximately half of that group was reportedly unvaccinated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-player section\" readability=\"24.874020887728\">\n<p>\u201cWe had one very interesting case, a kid, about six years old, with a temperature and a very high pulse rate, and I wondered if I should admit her. But now that Joe Biden and other nations are doing it\u2026well, that&#8217;s different. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/u33uzIQYw5\">https:\/\/t.co\/u33uzIQYw5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1465104362087321606?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 28, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>But the country\u2019s number of cases was still relatively low.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dr. Coetzee clarified her patients were healthy and she was concerned the variant might hit the elderly, those with co-morbidities such as diabetes or heart disease, worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we have to worry about now is that when older, unvaccinated people are infected with the new variant, and if they are not vaccinated, we are going to see many people with a severe [form of the] disease,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Economic Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/magazines\/panache\/with-dozens-of-new-mutations-does-omicron-cause-only-mild-illness-what-we-know-about-new-covid-variant\/articleshow\/87984152.cms\">reported<\/a> Sunday:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p>But it is far too early to assume that the variant will not cause severe illness, too, warned Dr. Richard Lessells, who coordinates clinical and epidemiological data for the South African COVID Variant Research Consortium.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the early infections in South Africa were spotted among younger people more likely to experience mild illness, he said. The picture may change as the virus spreads through the larger population.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>National Institutes of Health director Francis Collins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2021\/11\/28\/nih-dir-collins-omicron-variant-a-great-reason-to-go-and-get-boosted\/\">said<\/a> recently the omicron variant was a \u201cgreat reason for people in the United States to get their booster shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collins noted that, \u201cThe booster basically enlarges the capacity of your immune system to recognize all kinds of different spike&nbsp;proteins it\u2019s never seen.
