Paul asserted to Fauci, \u201cYou\u2019ve had the vaccine and you\u2019re wearing two masks. Isn\u2019t that theater?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul asked, \u201cGiven that no scientific studies have shown significant numbers of reinfections of patients previously infected or previously vaccinated, what specific studies do you cite to argue the public should be wearing masks well into 2022?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure I understand the connection of what you\u2019re saying about masks and reinfection,\u201d Fauci replied. \u201cWe\u2019re talking about people who have never been infected before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re telling everybody to wear a mask whether they\u2019ve had an infection or a vaccine,\u201d Paul fired. \u201cWhat I\u2019m saying is they have immunity and everybody agrees they have immunity. What studies do you have that people that\u2019ve had the vaccine or had the infection are spreading the infection? If we\u2019re not spreading the infection, isn\u2019t it just theater?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, it\u2019s not,\u201d Fauci insisted.<\/p>\n<p>Paul reiterated, \u201cYou\u2019ve had the vaccine and you\u2019re wearing two masks. Isn\u2019t that theater?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, of course, if you look at some of the congressional hearings that have gone on, it\u2019s been a show,\u201dFauci later&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/fauci-complains-about-being-politicized-by-extreme-people-such-as-jim-jordan-rand-paul\/\">snapped<\/a>&nbsp;in May on MSNBC, &nbsp;You know, people get up there like Congressman Jim Jordan and Senator Rand Paul, of course they politicize me. But, you know, it is what it is. You\u2019ve just got to go ahead and do what you have to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Within a week, Paul <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/watch-sen-rand-paul-grills-fauci-over-u-s-funding-for-wuhan-lab-origin-of-virus\/\">questioned Fauci<\/a> about whether the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded the Wuhan lab\u2019s gain-of-function research. \u201cDr. Fauci, do you still support funding of the NIH funding of the lab in Wuhan?\u201d Paul asked Fauci.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Paul, with all due respect, you are entirely, entirely and completely incorrect,\u201d Fauci replied. \u201cThe NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In July, Paul <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/you-do-not-know-what-you-are-talking-about-fauci-lashes-out-at-sen-rand-paul-for-suggesting-he-lied-to-congress\/\">implied<\/a> that Fauci perjured himself when he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-sen-rand-paul-grills-fauci-over-u-s-funding-for-wuhan-lab-origin-of-virus\">testified<\/a>&nbsp;before the&nbsp;Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee in May. \u201cDr. Fauci, as you are aware, it is a crime to lie to Congress,\u201d Paul said, adding that such an act was a felony punishable by up to five years in jail. \u201cOn your last trip to our committee on May 11, you stated that the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Citing a paper by Dr. Shi Zhengli of the Wuhan Virology Lab, Paul asked, \u201cKnowing it is a crime to lie to Congress, do you wish to retract your statement?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Paul, I have never lied before the Congress, and I do not retract that statement,\u201d Fauci snapped. \u201cThis paper that you are referring to was judged by qualified staff up and down the chain as not being gain-of-function.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The relevant exchange on \u201cFace The Nation\u201d on Sunday went like this:<\/p>\n<p><em>Brennan: This is a &nbsp;political football right now.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Fauci: Oh, it is a total political football.
