He spent 16 years&nbsp;in prison before being released in 1998.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Mucciante says he does not doubt Sebold was brutally sexually assaulted, but he became convinced of Broadwater\u2019s innocence based on details such as Sebold initially identifying a different man as her attacker in a police lineup.<\/p>\n<p>Broadwater was exonerated on November 24 in New York State Supreme Court.<br \/>As a result, <em>Lucky<\/em> lost its financing months ago, according to a source that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/film\/global\/alice-sebold-lucky-film-1235119766\/#recipient_hashed=b92941641788d15805f03b377d572994d12bdade7478975c93d0143007f01373\">spoke<\/a>&nbsp;to <em>Variety<\/em>, and it appears the project will not be moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, <em>You<\/em> star&nbsp;Victoria Pedretti \u2014 who was set to act in the film \u2014 is no longer involved in the project. It&nbsp;remains unclear who Pedretti was supposed to portray in the movie.<\/p>\n<p>A&nbsp;spokesperson for Scribner, Sebold\u2019s publisher, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2021\/nov\/23\/alice-sebold-1981-rape-conviction-overturned\">told<\/a> <em>The Guardian<\/em> that \u201cNeither Alice Sebold nor Scribner has any comment,\u201d adding that \u201cScribner has no plans to update the text of Lucky at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Lucky<\/em> \u2014 which sold over 1 million copies \u2014 kicked off Sebold\u2019s career as an author.
