(AP Photo\/Damian Dovarganes)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>\nUPDATED 7:16 AM PT \u2013 Thursday, January 28, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>The director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/prevention.html\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> (CDC) recently explained why the agency is not recommending the general public wear N95 masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/health\/2021\/01\/28\/mask-guidance-n95-fauci-walensky-cnn-coronavirus-town-hall-sot-vpx.cnn\">interview<\/a> Wednesday, Dr. Rochelle Walensky clarified that while some medical experts have argued they provide superior protection compared to other mask types, the CDC believes requiring their use might be counterproductive.<\/p>\n<p>The public health official explained she\u2019s concerned people may be less inclined to keep their masks on if they are wearing an N95. Dr. Walensky noted how uncomfortable these types of masks can be and how difficult they can make it to breathe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re hard to tolerate all day, everyday and, in fact, when you really think about how well people will wear them, I worry that if we suggest or require that people wear N95\u2019s they won\u2019t wear them all the time,\u201d she explained. \u201cThey\u2019re very hard to breathe in, they\u2019re very hard to tolerate when you wear them for long periods of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The DPA will also increase production of N95 masks &amp; personal protective equipment.
