(The Moab Police Department via AP)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 10:58 AM PT \u2013 Sunday, November 28, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>The attorney for Brian Laundrie\u2019s family revealed his parents knew about a missing handgun the day they reported his disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>The family\u2019s lawyer, Steven Bertolino, recently revealed law enforcement involved with the investigation agreed it was best for the information to remain private and not made available to the public. Due to the investigation being so public, officials said things would have been worse if the public knew Laundrie had a gun.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BrianLaundrie?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BrianLaundrie<\/a>\u2019s parents were aware a gun was missing, according to the family\u2019s attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Vei6IobOV4\">https:\/\/t.co\/Vei6IobOV4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Shannon Clowe (@ShannonCwtsp) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShannonCwtsp\/status\/1464640948206555144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 27, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This comes after a recent autopsy report showed Laundrie died by suicide, specifically from a gunshot wound to the head. Some sources said the parents could possibly face charges despite police having knowledge of the information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the Laundries have possible culpability under 18 U.S.C. 3, which is accessory after the fact, and possibly 18 U.S.C. 1519, which is obstruction in terms of, if they tampered with any evidence after that crime was committed,\u201d said retired FBI agent, Jennifer Coffindaffer.<\/p>\n<p>Bertolino announced when Laundrie was first reported missing, his parents turned over all of their guns, however, one was missing from their collection.<\/p>\n<p>One forensic scientist, Larry Koblinsky, also suggested Laundrie\u2019s family could be held accountable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomebody may have been helping him, most likely the parents, or it could have been somebody else that we don\u2019t even know about,\u201d said Koblinksy. \u201cBut again, the likelihood is that [Brian Laundrie] didn\u2019t do this alone. He may have had assistance.
