It will be a test of their determination to prevent further loss of life\u2026 We need to fix this. We can\u2019t have kids dying in the Channel every week.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Another source said of Macron\u2019s prickly reaction:&nbsp;\u201cThe fact is more people are going to die because of offence taken at a tweet and that is a sad situation to be in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While some diplomats have complained that sharing the letter online lacked tact, a British government source <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/johnson-taken-aback-as-macron-objects-to-diplomacy-by-twitter-xbd2376rn\">told<\/a> the newspaper of record that Paris was well aware that the letter was going to be shared publicly \u2014 suggesting the letter was made public out of exasperation at a lack of action from France \u2014 and that&nbsp;\u201cwe\u2019ve raised all of these things in private over two years. We\u2019ve not got anywhere. We think these things are reasonable. We think it\u2019s imperative on all of us to save lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.9617834394904\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Lukashenko: Illegal Migrants Have a \u2018Right\u2019 to Enter the European Union <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/b32MJHj0em\">https:\/\/t.co\/b32MJHj0em<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1464588065687711756?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 27, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The prime minister is reportedly said to have no regrets over sending the letter but was claimed to have been taken aback by the response by his opposite head of government in France and his administration.<\/p>\n<p>Ministers had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/16\/macron-punishing-uk-with-migrant-crisis-because-of-brexit-ministers-believe-report\/\">reportedly<\/a> said earlier this month that Macron is attempting to use the English Channel migrant crisis to punish Britain for Brexit and for the French leader to flex some diplomatic muscle ahead of next year\u2019s presidential election.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>British ministers speaking to <em>The Times<\/em> on Friday say they believe Macron appears to be having a \u201cnervous breakdown\u201d ahead of the major vote, describing the French government as appearing \u201cpetulant and over-reaching\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re going for this demonstration of French pride again,\u201d a source said. \u201cI\u2019m not sure how it plays to the French but it does look a bit silly on this side of the Channel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reluctance of France to take responsibility for the crisis building on its shores comes as the first victim to have died on Wednesday was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-europe-59439533\">identified<\/a> as&nbsp;24-year-old Kurdish-Iraqi woman&nbsp;Maryam Nuri Mohamed Amin, who attempted to illegally come to Britain to join her fianc\u00e9, who lives in the UK. Only two others on the boat, a Somali and an Iraqi, survived.<\/p>\n<p>According to Freedom of Information data obtained by <em>The Telegraph<\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2021\/11\/26\/failure-prosecute-migrants-arriving-illegally-leaves-uk-looking\/\">published<\/a> on Friday, there have only been 51 convictions against migrants for illegally entering the country out of 46,000 people since December 2019, representing just 0.1 per cent of illegal entries.<\/p>\n<p>Alp Mehmet, the chairman of Migration Watch UK, told the newspaper: \u201cDespite the public safety risks, the Government seems to have turned a blind eye to thousands of illegal arrivals even as numbers soared.
