Given that the variant names jumped from \u201cMu\u201d all the way to \u201cOmicron,\u201d skipping \u201cNu\u201d and \u201cXi\u201d respectively, people on Twitter speculated that the WHO tinkered with the order so as not to offend Chinese communist dictator Xi Jinping.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"11.860465116279\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WHO?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WHO<\/a> names new <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID19<\/a> variant <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Omicron?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Omicron<\/a>. But the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Greek?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Greek<\/a> letter after Nu, the most recent variant, is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Xi?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Xi<\/a>. Objectively, this variant should be named the &#8220;Xi variant,&#8221; if non-political rules apply. Yet WHO skipped Xi, jumped right to Omicron. In fact, \u2018Mu\u2019 is the transliteration of several different Chinese surnames. Its meaning varies depending on how it is spelled in Chinese, and which dialect it is pronounced in.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The WHO has been placating China since the beginning of the pandemic by either failing to hold them accountable for unleashing the virus on the world or outright covering for the Communist country.
