As an assailant tried to steal KRON4\u2019s camera equipment, Kevin Nishita \u2014 an armed guard hired to protect the crew \u2014 was shot in the abdomen. He passed away on Saturday morning after receiving treatment at Highland Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe victim is Kevin Nishita. He leaves behind a wife, two children and three grandchildren,\u201d explained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kron4.com\/news\/bay-area\/kron4-security-guard-dies-from-injuries-after-attempted-armed-robbery\/\">KRON4<\/a>. \u201cNishita worked as an armed guard for Star Protection Agency. Prior to working as a guard, he served as a police officer at the Oakland Housing Authority, Hayward Police, San Jose Police, and the Colma Police departments. A reward of $32,500 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A bystander was also hit by bullet shrapnel; he is presently in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been an extremely violent week,\u201d said Oakland police during a press conference. \u201cWe are asking if you were in the area, have a business or live nearby to please check your surveillance footage as you may have captured the crime before, during, or after it occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nishita\u2019s colleagues mourned his loss on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKevin was genuine, humble and always did the job with a smile on his face,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cbarcotv\/status\/1464677123575070721?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1464677123575070721%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kron4.com%2Fnews%2Fbay-area%2Fkron4-security-guard-dies-from-injuries-after-attempted-armed-robbery%2F\">said<\/a> KRON4 reporter Camila Barco. \u201cHe was our private security guard that kept our team and numerous other Bay Area reporters safe while [out] in the field. One had a gun and put [it] in my face and said, \u2018We\u2019re taking the camera,\u2019\u201d Ford recounted. \u201cMy whole thought at the moment was, \u2018Be calm.\u2019 Let\u2019s not get this guy excited. He\u2019s got the gun. I don\u2019t. So you take you the camera.
