These data will provide more information about whether B.1.1.529 could be an escape variant that may require an adjustment of our vaccine if the variant spreads globally,\u201d the statement reads in part.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/covid-omicron-variant-pfizer-biontech-vaccine-reworked-100-days\">Fox Business<\/a>, a BioNTech spokesperson said that Pfizer\/BioNTech could have a \u201ctailor-made vaccine\u201d for a \u201cvaccine-escape variant\u201d ready relatively swiftly:<\/p>\n<p><em>In the event that vaccine-escape variant emerges, Pfizer and BioNTech expect to be able to develop and produce a tailor-made vaccine against that variant in approximately 100 days, subject to regulatory approval.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe variant differs significantly from previously observed variants as it has additional mutations located in the spike protein,\u201d the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPfizer and BioNTech would be able to redesign their shot within six weeks and ship initial batches within 100 days, BioNTech added,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/biontech-says-expect-more-data-new-variant-2-weeks-2021-11-26\/\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Moderna, the maker of a similar COVID-19 vaccine available in the United States, offered a similar comment, saying that they are looking into a variant booster shot.
