Other politicians have been the targets of similar claims in the past.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In recent days, multiple Facebook users have shared the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=10215489296543847&amp;set=a.10203005890586500&amp;type=3&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">black-and-white photo<\/a> of a man about to be hanged along with claims he is one of the president\u2019s ancestors, supposedly named Remus Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudy Wallman Biden, a professional genealogy researcher in South Dakota, was doing some personal work on her own family tree,\u201d text accompanying the picture reads, in part. \u201cShe discovered that President Joe Biden\u2019s great, great uncle, Remus Biden, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Texas in 1889. Both Judy and President Biden share this common ancestor. The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Galveston, Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The photo, <a href=\"https:\/\/cdm16079.contentdm.oclc.org\/digital\/collection\/p15330coll22\/id\/17533\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">available<\/a> on the Denver Public Library Digital Collections website, actually shows the hanging of Thomas \u201cBlack Jack\u201d Ketchum in New Mexico in 1901. Ketchum, an outlaw who had committed various crimes, was captured by authorities after attempting to rob a train and sentenced to death, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradoencyclopedia.org\/article\/thomas-e-ketchum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Encyclopedia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSheriff Salome Garcia of Union County, New Mexico tightens the noose around the neck of Black Jack Ketchum prior to his hanging in Clayton, New Mexico,\u201d the description of the photo on the Denver Public Library Digital Collections website <a href=\"https:\/\/cdm16079.contentdm.oclc.org\/digital\/collection\/p15330coll22\/id\/17533\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">partly reads<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/11\/17\/fact-check-joe-biden-nike-foamposite-sneakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show Joe Biden Wearing Nike Foamposite Sneakers?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Previous, nearly-identical iterations of the claim have attempted to use the photo to falsely suggest other politicians, such as former Secretary of State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/search\/str\/Remus+Rodham\/keywords_blended_posts?epa=SEARCH_BOX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hillary Clinton<\/a>, former Vice President Al Gore and former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/madhavan.kallath\/posts\/10155265245508786\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George W.
