It is not, however, an actual depiction of snow under a microscope. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/03\/05\/fact-check-great-sphinx-covered-snow-egypt-japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show The Great Sphinx Covered In Snow In Egypt?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A reverse image search revealed the photo actually shows a <a href=\"https:\/\/roganbrown.com\/artwork\/3876452-Magic-Circle-Variation-5-Detail.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">paper sculpture<\/a> created by the France-based artist Rogan Brown. In the Facebook post, the image of the sculpture, titled \u201cMagic Circle Variation 5 Detail,\u201d has been rotated and cropped. A photo of the piece <a href=\"https:\/\/roganbrown.com\/artwork\/3876452-Magic-Circle-Variation-5-Detail.htmlhttps:\/\/roganbrown.com\/artwork\/3876452-Magic-Circle-Variation-5-Detail.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can be found<\/a> on Brown\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>His \u201cMagic Circle\u201d series, from which \u201cMagic Circle Variation 5\u201d stems, is \u201cinspired by the human microbiome,\u201d Brown <a href=\"https:\/\/roganbrown.com\/artwork\/4240023-Magic-Circle-Variation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explains<\/a> on his website. For the series, he \u201cresearched images of bacteria and created stylized sculptural motifs that I have then placed in reef-like compositions celebrating the diversity and potential beauty of this hidden world,\u201d according to his website. Several news outlets, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2015\/12\/25\/460869684\/is-this-snowy-wonderland-or-the-world-inside-a-petri-dishhttps:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2015\/12\/25\/460869684\/is-this-snowy-wonderland-or-the-world-inside-a-petri-dish\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-2683453\/Life-microscope-No-sculptures-cells-inside-human-body-PAPER.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daily Mail<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/smart-news\/cut-paper-sculptures-captures-intricacy-natural-architecture-180957500\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Smithsonian Magazine<\/a>, have highlighted Brown\u2019s artwork in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Brown <a href=\"https:\/\/roganbrown.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">describes<\/a> his body of work as \u201can attempt by a non-scientist, an outsider, to visualize, comprehend and assimilate these new ideas and new ways of seeing the world, whether it involves our changing perception of bacteria or the paradigm shifts in our comprehension of the physical world that emerge from quantum physics.\u201d He has created pieces by cutting the paper with a scalpel and by using a laser, according to his website.<\/p>\n<p>While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/yoltheway\/photos\/a.569299083173044\/3885353318234254\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook photo<\/a> does not depict snowflakes under a microscope, actual microscope images of snowflakes can be viewed in articles published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2015\/02\/10\/us\/microscopic-snowflakes-irpt\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=130818284\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An image shared on Facebook over 200 times\u00a0purportedly shows snowflakes underneath a microscope.Verdict: False The image shows a paper sculpture inspired by the human microbiome.
