Amen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catholic University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic.edu\/about-us\/at-a-glance\/index.html\">boasts<\/a> of being \u201cthe only higher education institution founded by the U.S. bishops,\u201d having been established in 1887 as a papally chartered graduate and research center.<\/p>\n<p>Clegg told Fox News that \u201cJesus has been depicted as many different races, but Jesus is always depicted as nothing but Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has never \u2014 to my knowledge \u2014 been any serious, respected Catholic theologian or icon maker who has depicted Jesus Christ as another human being,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The CUA Young Americans for Freedom student organization has launched a petition to have the painting removed from campus. It has garnered more than 1,000 signatures as of November 23, the Daily Mail <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10236547\/Catholic-university-student-says-painting-George-Floyd-depicted-Jesus-Christ-heretical.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are asking through this petition that the University\u2019s administration remove these images from public display on our campus, as we believe they are disrespectful, and sacrilegious,\u201d the petition declares.<\/p>\n<p>The group has dubbed the painting a \u201cpolitical\u201d statement while underscoring the separation of church and state. \u201cNo political or social cause ever justifies depicting another in the place of Jesus Christ,\u201d it says.<\/p>\n<p>One of the icons was stolen on November 23.
