Jon Tester (D-Mont.) Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), all members of the Senate Banking Committee, told Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) \u2014 the panel\u2019s chairman \u2014 of their opposition. They\u2019re joined in opposing her by Sens. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A White House official informed Axios that the Biden administration \u201ccontinues to strongly support her historic nomination,\u201d adding, \u201cSaule Omarova is eminently qualified for this position. She has been treated unfairly since her nomination with unacceptable red-baiting from Republicans like it\u2019s the McCarthy era.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire noted that Omarova <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/biden-bank-regulator-nominee-say-what-you-will-about-old-ussr-there-was-no-gender-pay-gap\/\">tweeted<\/a> in 2019, \u201cUntil I came to the US, I couldn\u2019t imagine that things like gender pay gap still existed in today\u2019s world. Say what you will about old USSR, there was no gender pay gap there. Market doesn\u2019t always \u2018know best.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On October 6, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) asked Omarova to turn over her thesis completed at Moscow State University titled \u201cKarl Marx\u2019s Economic Analysis and the Theory of Revolution in&nbsp;<em>The Capital<\/em>.\u201d He stated, \u201cWhile it appears that you have deleted any reference to your thesis in the version of your curriculum vitae (CV) that is currently available on the Cornell Law School website, the paper appeared on your CV as recently as April 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA spokesperson for the Senate Banking Committee Republicans confirmed to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/biden-comptroller-omarova-moscow-state-university-thesis-marxism\">Fox Business<\/a> that Omarova has not yet submitted the document,\u201d The Daily Wire reported on October 17.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2021, Omarova said she wants oil and gas companies to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/key-biden-nominee-on-oil-companies-we-want-them-to-go-bankrupt-if-we-want-to-tackle-climate-change\/\">go bankrupt<\/a>, asserting, \u201cHere what I\u2019m thinking about is primarily coal industry and oil and gas industry. A lot of the smaller players in that industry are going to probably go bankrupt in short order, at least we want them to go bankrupt if we want to tackle climate change,\u201d in a clip provided by the American Accountability Foundation (AAF).<\/p>\n<p>Norbert Michel, who directs the Cato Institute\u2019s Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/why-controversial-biden-nominee-saule-omarova-would-be-disastrous-as-a-key-treasury-official\/\">told The Daily Wire<\/a> that as Comptroller of the Currency, Omarova and other officials could allocate \u201ccredit and funds.\u201d He surmised that if that became a reality, \u201cthe private sector could not compete with the federal government,\u201d adding, \u201cThe danger is that private banks would not be able to provide better interest rates to customers and charge lower rates to make loans.
