Robert Mueller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/8-things-you-need-know-about-mueller-report-ben-shapiro\">noted<\/a> in 2019 that his \u201cinvestigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.\u201d Inspector General Michael Horowitz concluded in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/storage\/120919-examination.pdf\">December 2019<\/a> report that the dossier had \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-supercut-of-media-declaring-discredited-steele-dossier-is-legitimate\">zero<\/a>\u201d corroboration. We now know that as early as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/17\/steele-dossier-guide-latest-allegations\/\">December 2016<\/a>, before Trump took office, Obama administration Assistant Attorney General Bruce Ohr expressed doubts because the report\u2019s primary subsource, Igor Danchenko, lived in Washington, D.C. Danchencko has since been indicted for lying to federal officials about his sources<\/p>\n<p>The CNN report even got facts wrong in its retrospective, falsely claiming that Special Counsel John Durham \u201chasn\u2019t said in his recent indictments, spanning 66 pages, that the FBI or Mueller ever relied on Steele for anything beyond the [four fraudulently obtained FISA warrants for Trump aide Carter] Page surveillance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, page 2 of Durham\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/sco\/press-release\/file\/1446386\/download\">39-page indictment<\/a>&nbsp;of Danchenko said that \u2014 relying on the fraudulent Steele dossier \u2014 FBI agents said that Carter Page was merely one \u201cpart of a \u2018well-coordinated conspiracy of co-operation\u2019 between Trump\u2019s campaign and the Russian government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like much of the legacy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/from-impossible-to-credible-how-the-legacy-media-is-desperately-spinning-their-wuhan-lab-flip-flop\">media\u2019s about-face on the possible origins of COVID-19<\/a> from a Chinese laboratory such as the Wuhan Institute of Virology, CNN and other outlets claim their revised view of the salacious Steele dossier comes due to new revelations; yet in some cases, the underlying facts had been known for years.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, CNN noted that the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 campaign \u201cpaid for the research\u201d \u2014 a fact, it acknowledges in the next sentence, was known \u201cbefore the 2016 election,\u201d and which its hosts have cited on the air for nearly five years.<\/p>\n<p>CNN, which joins recent <em>mea culpas <\/em>from legacy media outlets like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/15\/opinion\/steele-dossier.html\">The New York Times<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/23\/steele-dossier-igor-danchenko-indictment-scrutiny\/\">The Washington Post<\/a>, has much to apologize for. The network\u2019s Manu Raju reiterated that \u201csome of those [allegations in the dossier] have been corroborated\u201d on December 18, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s Alisyn Camerota <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RealSaavedra\/status\/939263507144458240\">told<\/a> Congressman Jim Jordan, \u201cYour intel community has corroborated all of the details in there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota falsely claims that the entire Trump dossier has been corroborated by U.S. intel agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Washington Examiner on 11\/19: FBI &amp; DOJ officials have told congressional investigators in that they have NOT been able to verify or corroborate the dossier. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WaRvj1RRM5\">pic.twitter.com\/WaRvj1RRM5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RealSaavedra\/status\/939263507144458240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 8, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<p>CNN was far from alone in spreading misinformation about the Steele dossier. After the Mueller report took the wind out of her sails, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow instead summarized a footnote mentioning \u201ca guy Trump actually did know from business connections in the former Soviet Union actually did get in touch with Michael Cohen to tell him to tell Trump that he was stopping the flow of some tapes from Russia.\u201d Maddow said the report left this claim \u201cdangling out there like a thread that\u2019s screaming, \u2018Tie me off!\u2019\u201d But Durham\u2019s indictment states that Russian sources deny ever alluding to a Trump \u201cpee tape\u201d or allegations about Trump cavorting with Russian prostitutes during their conversations with Danchenko.<\/p>\n<p>To this day, some in the legacy media continue to uphold the veracity of the Steele dossier and downplay their own role in spreading its contents. MSNBC\u2019s Nicolle Wallace said in December 2018 that, \u201cto date, none of\u201d the dossier \u201chas been disproven and whole, big parts of it are holding up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This November 12, Wallace said that Danchenko\u2019s indictment only proved that the document was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/smear-so-called-investigation-networks-ignore-and-spin-steele-dossier-indictment\">still being \u201cvetted.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you peek over at&nbsp;right-wing media, they are still taking a victory&nbsp;lap and feeling avenged around&nbsp;the dossier being further vetted,\u201d she said. In a January 2019 article titled \u201cRevisiting the Trump-Russia dossier: What\u2019s right, wrong and still unclear?\u201d CNN continued to claim that aspects of the Steele dossier had \u201csince been confirmed,\u201d citing events like Michael Flynn\u2019s trip to Russia, which was public knowledge before the Steele dossier was produced.
