The Burberry in Westfield Mall was burglarized and looted,\u201d said San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott in a press conference to reporters Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>San Jose police spokesman Sgt. Christian Camarillo has taken umbrage with the term. \u201cWe are talking about two incidents, we\u2019re not going to call this looting,\u201d he said of the thefts. \u201cThis is organized robbery. That\u2019s what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/dozens-of-looters-storm-a-california-nordstrom-employees-pepper-sprayed-physically-assaulted\">rash<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/mobs-rob-three-san-francisco-area-stores-in-three-days\">flash thefts<\/a> have occurred across California in San Jose, Santana Row, Hayward, and Walnut Creek. In each, waves of thieves \u2014 in one instance more than 100 \u2014 stormed into stores and stole as much as they could carry.<\/p>\n<p>But calling the thefts \u201clooting\u201d carries a racist connotation, according to Lorenzo Boyd, a professor of criminal justice and community policing at the University of New Haven and a former police&nbsp;officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooting is a term that we typically use when people of color or urban dwellers are doing something,\u201d he said, according to the ABC report. \u201cWe tend not to use that term for other people when they do the exact same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said the \u201csmash-and-grabs\u201d were not connected to the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict.&nbsp;\u201cThese types of massive, organized smash-and-grabs were happening before the Rittenhouse situation because it happens cyclically,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a false equivalency.
