Cave wrote:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p>As the global economy heats up and tries to put the pandemic aside, a battle for the young and able has begun. With fast-track visas and promises of permanent residency, many of the wealthy nations that drive the global economy are sending a message to skilled immigrants all over the world: Help wanted. Now.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <em>NYT<\/em>\u2018s cheap-labor message was backed up by quotes from other self-interested advocates for cheap labor:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p>\u201cCovid is an accelerator of change,\u201d said Jean-Christophe Dumont, the head of international migration research for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or O.E.C.D. \u201cCountries have had to realize the importance of migration and immigrants.\u201d<\/p>\n[\u2026]\n<p>In the United States, \u2026 calls for reorienting immigration policy toward the economy are getting louder. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has urged policymakers to overhaul the immigration system to allow more work visas and green cards.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>One of the approved advocates was Parag Khanna, an Indian immigrant to the United States, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/mckinsey-on-books\/author-talks-parag-khanna-on-the-forces-creating-a-new-geography-of-opportunity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently told<\/a> McKindsey.com:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p>There is a clear self-interest in moving people to resources, and technologies to people, but we\u2019re not going to get to this new equilibrium that we need and want if we\u2019re still governed by antiquated concepts such as [national] sovereignty \u2026 The bottom line is this: [business] supply and demand should always dictate [worldwide] migration policy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em>\u2018 disapproval of a dishwasher getting $65 reflects the widespread elitist rejection of economic or civic solidarity with their nations\u2019 middle classes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>For example, the claimed $65 is only for weekend hours at the high end Rockpool Bar &amp; Grill in downtown Sydney, and 12 hours a week would provide a worker with $39,000 a year. That\u2019s about $30,000 a year after Australian taxes, barely enough to pay for the $1,000 per month rent on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.property.com.au\/rent\/with-2-bedrooms-in-western+sydney%2c+nsw%3b+\/list-1?source=location-search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two-bedroom backyard apartment<\/a> located one hour from the restaurant\u2019s dishwasher and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockpoolbarandgrill.com.au\/sydney\/menu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$40 lamb chop entrees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18882850\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" readability=\"32\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-51344357.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-18882850\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-51344357.jpg\" alt width=\"343\" height=\"521\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Sydney chef Neil Perry holds an entree at his Rockpool Restaurant. (DAVID HANCOCK\/AFP\/ Getty)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>But every other Australian restaurant worker has to work much more than 40 hours to have a decent home because the nation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/05\/21\/new-zealand-chops-migration-to-deflate-housing-bubble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mass immigration<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2021\/sep\/14\/australian-house-prices-could-be-about-to-flatten-out-after-rising-168-in-last-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exploded housing costs<\/a> and held down wages.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the migrants have crowded into a few coastal cities, so generating huge revenue and profits for the real estate sector, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/11\/20\/gop-donors-economist-immigration-can-offset-foreign-trade-risks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">myriad retailers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe price of a typical house in Sydney has multiplied by 17 times in the past 40 years, almost three times faster than wages,\u201d the S<em>ydney Morning&nbsp;Herald<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/national\/nsw\/house-price-growth-three-times-faster-than-wages-over-four-decades-20211102-p595dr.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> in November 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Roughly 18 million Australians share their homeland with some 7.7 million migrants \u2014 or almost one migrant for every two Australians.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The immigrants include roughly 1.5 million migrants from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/23\/lawsuit-spotlights-anti-american-corruption-in-h-1b-outsourcing-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">culturally foreign India<\/a> and China, who now comprise almost 10 percent of the population.<\/p>\n<p>The huge inflow has also helped to minimize Australians\u2019 wages, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-04-19\/verrender-the-great-skilled-worker-shortage-wages-oecd\/100077706\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> the business editor at ABC.net.au:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"20\">\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">That\u2019s an academic way of saying this: There\u2019s an easy fix to skills shortages \u2014&nbsp;pay higher wages. Instead, the push has been on to import large numbers of extra workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">There are two reasons why. The first is to depress the price of labour. And the second&nbsp;is that rapid expansion of the population results in a bigger economy and a larger potential market which makes it easier for businesses to make more money without any need for innovation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">[\u2026]\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">[But] Per capita GDP was 9 per cent lower than the OECD\u2019s best performers and our productivity was 15 per cent below the star performers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">Our problem isn\u2019t so much a skills shortage as a policy ruse. We\u2019ve bodgied up the numbers to make it appear we are world leaders when it comes to economic growth. But in the process, we\u2019ve squeezed wages, living standards and productivity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <em>Sydney Morning Herald,<\/em> which announced the well-paid dishwasher jobs on November 21, filled in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/national\/dishwashers-on-90-an-hour-as-staff-shortages-smash-hospitality-sector-20211119-p59a9x.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the gaps not reported<\/a> by the <em>New York Times<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9.8648648648649\">\n<p>Apprentice chefs earn as little as [$10] an hour and are expected to work long hours, which participants at a meeting of leaders in the hospitality sector said contributed to labour shortages.<\/p>\n<div class=\"_1lC_G\" readability=\"10.737051792829\">&nbsp;The meeting of industry and government representatives also discussed the findings of a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.menulog.com.au\/explore\/media-centre\/articles\/NICI-research-report\">survey<\/a>&nbsp;which found 91 per cent said there was an over-reliance on foreign chefs in Australian kitchens, while 59 per cent identified a shortage of local chefs.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <em>Herald<\/em> article also quoted the Rockpool restaurant\u2019s executive chef, Corey Costelloe:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>Mr Costelloe also said some employers needed to \u201cpick up their game\u201d to attract more apprentices and staff: \u201cThey\u2019re shooting themselves in the foot if they don\u2019t make their work environment a good place to work, you\u2019re not going to get the staff,\u201d he said.&nbsp;Asked if he would encourage his kids to join the hospitality industry, Mr Costelloe said: \u201cNo way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Unlike the <em>New York Times<\/em>, the <em>Sydney Morning Herald<\/em> quoted an advocate of better pay for employees:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p>Karma Lord, director of Hospo Voice, the hospitality arm of the United Workers Union, said large numbers of employers had built businesses on wage theft and insecure work, and preyed on the most vulnerable young and migrant workers.&nbsp; \u201cTrained, experienced workers have quit this industry in droves because they are fed up with being treated like trash, and this has absolutely peaked during the pandemic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The labor crunch is also pressuring the restaurant owners to hire sidelined,&nbsp;indigenous Australians, the <em>Herald<\/em> showed: \u201c[National Indigenous Culinary Institute] chief executive Nathan Lovett said attracting people from Indigenous, marginalised or remote communities with an interest in cooking was a critical step in helping solve the industry\u2019s skills crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-10-13\/public-infrastructure-projects-covid-skill-labour-shortage\/100533730\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">business pressure<\/a> has prompted Australia\u2019s government to import more workers and consumers as the coronavirus disaster is contained. \u201cWe are working on&nbsp;a figure of 200,000, it may well be&nbsp;more than that but we will be&nbsp;actively looking to bring as many&nbsp;people into Australia as soon as we&nbsp;possibly can,\u201d Home Affairs Minister Karen&nbsp;Andrews said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-11-22\/migration-boost-visa-international-student-places\/100638704\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">November 21<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, migration curbs Americans\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/07\/11\/president-trump-wins-big-on-secret-meatpacking-robots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">productivity<\/a>, shrinks their political&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com+%22john+binder%22+%22demographic+change%22&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS946US946&amp;oq=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com+%22john+binder%22+%22demographic+change%22&amp;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58.10228j0j4&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">clout<\/a>, and widens&nbsp;regional wealth&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/13\/zuckerbergs-data-says-amnesty-gives-economic-windfall-coastal-democratic-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gaps<\/a>.
