I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tv\/CWoRbqWj5Uj\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" readability=\"-0.28767123287671\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Burton, who has played Jason Morgan since 1991, expressed his gratitude for having been able to perform the role for so long. He also thanked the fans and added he hoped he\u2019d be back, saying, \u201cMaybe one day if these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Burton had <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/tv\/news\/steve-burton-fired-general-hospital-vaccine-mandate-1235118393\/\" target=\" _blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that he tested positive for the virus in August because he had been \u201cexposed at work,\u201d and fan sites had been discussing his vax status for months, according to <i>Variety<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The long-running ABC soap is the only one of the few soaps still in existence that has initiated a vaccine mandate \u2014 which went into effect on Nov. 1. The others, NBC\u2019s <i>Days of Our Lives<\/i>, and CBS\u2019 <i>The Young and the Restless<\/i> and <i>The Bold and the Beautiful<\/i>, are relying solely on testing, social distancing, and quarantining if exposed.<\/p>\n<p>Burton is not the only star to be exiting <i>General Hospital<\/i>.
