(Photo by Nathan Howard\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>\nUPDATED 4:30 PM PT \u2013 Wednesday, January 27, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>An Oregon state Democrat became the center of in-party fighting following an investigation into sexual harassment allegations.<\/p>\n<p>A recently published <a href=\"https:\/\/olis.oregonlegislature.gov\/liz\/2021R1\/Downloads\/CommitteeMeetingDocument\/229560\">report<\/a> on the investigation&#8217;s findings claimed State Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/oregon-state-lawmaker-likely-created-hostile-work-environment-for-former-romantic-partners-investigation\">Diego Hernandez<\/a> (D-Portland) created a hostile work environment.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation, launched in May of 2020, found Hernandez had a history of developing romantic relationships with women who worked at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kgw.com\/article\/news\/local\/rep-hernandez-sexual-harassment-accusations\/283-ad36b86f-cc82-4a4e-a2fe-d789bb45226a\">Oregon State Capitol<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two women claimed he made it difficult to end the affairs, adding they felt they were risking their careers if they broke up with him.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Women whose work brings them to Capitol were reasonably concerned that rejecting Rep. Diego Hernandez\u2019 advances could hurt them professionally, report finds <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BcVJT2PEVR\">https:\/\/t.co\/BcVJT2PEVR<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JlQacKrJO8\">pic.twitter.com\/JlQacKrJO8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Oregonian (@Oregonian) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Oregonian\/status\/1354247839338131457?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 27, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, at least five others came forward to accuse Hernandez of &#8220;verbal&#8221; and &#8220;sexual&#8221; harassment. The scandal created tension within the State Party, which caused at least one Democrat to reconsider his party affiliation.<\/p>\n<p>State Rep. Mark Meek (D-Clackamas County) came to Hernandez&#8217;s defense and slammed Democrat leadership for the way the investigation was handled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The system is broken and they were out for Diego without due process,&#8221; Meek stated. &#8220;I&#8217;m definitely considering changing my party&#8230; most likely [to] the Independent Party.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meek said he and several others were frustrated with Democrat speaker Tina Kotek for publicizing the investigation and calling on Hernandez to resign before due process.<\/p>\n<p>However, this is not the first scandal centered around Hernandez.<\/p>\n<p>Early in his career, the state representative was accused of ranking female lobbyists on their looks. In a separate case, he was hit with a restraining order over claims of violent and threatening behavior.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Hernandez apologized for any discomfort he&#8217;s caused, but seemed to write off the accusations.
