According to prosecutors, Grant used her cell phone to record the woman, who was being assisted by another woman in using the write-in Byron Brown stamp. The incident was streamed on Facebook live and later posted to Grant\u2019s personal Facebook page.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The clip <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wUAq_lBRl0Q\">showed<\/a>&nbsp;the individual helping the elderly woman:<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Former Erie County Legislator accused of election intimidation\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wUAq_lBRl0Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In the video, Grant is heard saying repeatedly, \u201cThis is illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is further alleged that the defendant engaged in a course of conduct, with the intent to alarm or seriously annoy another person, by filming the individual who was submitting their ballot,\u201d the attorney\u2019s office noted.<\/p>\n<p>Grant is featured on the Erie County Legislature Democratic Caucus <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160319095056\/http:\/\/www2.erie.gov\/grant\/\">website<\/a> as a Democrat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou come here and you take an 80-plus year-old woman, and you make her feel like what she\u2019s doing is against the law,\u201d Carolette Meadows, who was helping the senior voter, said. \u201cYou intimidate and bully the community that if they want to support Byron Brown, they\u2019re doing something wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Erie County Board of Elections, it received a complaint from the New York Attorney General\u2019s Office the next day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have sent a letter to Betty Jean Grant, asking her to stay away from the polling places by 100 feet,\u201d Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner Jeremy Zellner explained, the WKBW article said.<\/p>\n<p>The note to Grant also said, \u201cYou have interfered with the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Elections revoked her poll-watching certificate, and she was given an appearance ticket for <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.erie.gov\/da\/index.php?q=press\/former-board-elections-worker-charged-harassing-voter-inside-polling-place-and-posting-video-s\">arraignment<\/a> December 6 inside Buffalo City Court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Erie County legislator and Board of Elections worker Betty Jean Grant was recently charged with harassing a voter at a Buffalo, New York, polling place.
