Any forms of vigilantism in our society are unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Statement from National Basketball Social Justice Coalition Executive Director James Cadogan on the verdict in Kenosha, Wisconsin. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5jjTtssON2\">pic.twitter.com\/5jjTtssON2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NBA (@NBA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBA\/status\/1461860226576048131?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 20, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few NBA players also expressed their opinions, including former 14-year NBA veteran and current Miami Heat assistant coach, Caron Butler.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s verdict in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse reflects the extraordinary racial bias that plagues the U.S. criminal legal system,\u201d Butler <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realtuffjuice\/status\/1461843730412019717?s=20\">wrote<\/a> on Twitter. \u201cIt also serves as a rare glimpse into how white privilege impacts prosecution, conviction and punishment \u2013 a reality rarely exposed publicly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While there are many that share Butler\u2019s view of the case, one former NBA player sees it differently.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kwame Brown \u2014 the number one overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft \u2014 defended the Rittenhouse verdict.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur focus should be on Ahmaud Arbery, it shouldn\u2019t be on Kyle Rittenhouse. That to me, in my opinion, looked like self-defense,\u201d Brown said. \u201cThe courts found it as self-defense. The only bad thing is that he had to sit in jail for so long because they made something political that shouldn\u2019t have been political.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Brown went on to name Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Roland Martin, questioning why the Rittenhouse trial was used for \u201cpolitical gain.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to tie it into something black, we want to tie it into something bigger, so we can have people come out and march and get checks off a little teenagers back,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA bunch of people are getting paid to push this racist s***.
