href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2021\/10\/20\/arizona-ag-mark-brnovich-facebook-is-a-direct-facilitator-of-illegal-immigration-catastophe\/\">called on<\/a> the DOJ to investigate Facebook over the matter.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Brnovich asked for an&nbsp;investigation into Facebook\u2019s \u201cfacilitation of human smuggling at Arizona\u2019s southern border,\u201d and to \u201cstop its active encouragement and facilitation of illegal entry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ\u2019s response to the attorney general, however, did not provide information on whether or not the department is investigating Facebook, or if it plans to do so in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith respect to your specific concerns about Facebook, the Department takes allegations of criminal wrongdoing seriously,\u201d the letter reads, according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough we appreciate having the benefit of your views, as you may know, longstanding policy and practice of the Department prevents us from discussing allegations further or confirming the existence or commencement of any investigation,\u201d Theo Stamos, intergovernmental affairs liaison at the DOJ, wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Stamos then reportedly outlined examples of how the department is \u201ccommitted to the rule of law,\u201d and how the agency uses tools to fight human smuggling and trafficking.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cFor example, earlier this year, the Attorney General announced the establishment of Joint Task Force Alpha, a law enforcement task force marshaling the investigative and prosecutorial resources of the Department to enhance U.S. enforcement efforts against the most prolific and dangerous human smuggling and trafficking organizations,\u201d&nbsp;Stamos wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The letter also mentioned the DOJ\u2019s&nbsp;partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to launch the U.S.-Mexico Bilateral Human Trafficking Enforcement Initiative in 2009 to combat threats and dismantle trafficking networks.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Meta Company (Facebook\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2021\/10\/28\/facebook-changes-name-to-meta-in-hopes-of-reversing-brand-damage\/\">new name<\/a>) told Fox News on Saturday, \u201cWe prohibit content that offers or assists with human smuggling, invest in technology and people to proactively identify it, and remove it from our platform whenever we find it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Facebook\u2019s letter to&nbsp;Brnovich \u2014 which prompted the Arizona AG\u2019s call on the DOJ to launch an investigation \u2014 the company said that while it does try to remove drug trafficking content and posts \u201cpromoting human smuggling services,\u201d people are still free to post information about crossing international borders illegally.<\/p>\n<p><em>You can
