Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) on Monday attempted to explain her controversial opinion on emptying out federal prisons following her longtime support of the BREATHE Act, which has the goal of closing all federal prisons, admitting that not everyone can be rehabilitated.<\/p>\n<p>Tlaib made the admission during an interview with&nbsp;Axios reporter Jonathan Swan, who asked her about her support of the BREATHE Act, which the lawmaker formerly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/07\/10\/left-wing-breathe-act-would-close-all-federal-prisons-immigration-detention-centers\/\">described<\/a> as a&nbsp;\u201cnew version for public safety \u2014 a new vision for public safety, one that protects and affirms black lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The act specifically provides a \u201croadmap for prison abolition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo what extent have you wrestled with releasing any potential downsides of releasing into society every single person who currently in a federal prison?\u201d Swan asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I think that everyone\u2019s like, \u2018Oh my God, we\u2019re going to just release everybody,\u2019\u201d she began.&nbsp;\u201cThat\u2019s not what I\u2019m\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what the act says,\u201d Swan noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, but did you see how many people are mentally ill that are in prison right now,\u201d Tlaib continued, seemingly backtracking on her position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the act you endorsed actually says release everyone in 10 years,\u201d Swan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are like, human traffickers, child sex [predators]. Do you mean that you don\u2019t actually support that?
