The city’s Public Design Commission must approve the statue’s relocation and any plans to display the statue. The Commission voted unanimously in June to relocate the statue, amid claims that the statue symbolizes racism and colonialism, according to the New York Post. Museum officials proposed the removal of the statue, which depicts Roosevelt on horseback, with a black man on his left side and a Native American on his right, in 2020, in the wake of the George Floyd protests and the nationwide movement to remove statues of famous figures over allegations of racism and colonialism. The Daily Wire is one of America’s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
