Dr. Jacqui Lewis as part of what as branded an \u201cInterfaith Response To White Supremacy\u201d in the context of Kyle Rittenhouse\u2019s not guilty verdict, stating that she did not \u201cwant to have\u201d a conversation on whether Rittenhouse acted in self-defense, because she does not believe he should have possessed a gun in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>During the conversation, &nbsp;Sarsour made it clear that she was not interested in actually examining the details of the case, such as if Rittenhouse acted in self-defense on that night of rioting in Kenosha, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI also don\u2019t believe a 17-year-old boy has the maturity and is even legal to be carrying an assault weapon \u2014 a semi-automatic assault weapon. And that\u2019s something that\u2019s important for people to understand in the particular situation,\u201d she began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that no matter what people want to say, self-defense, not self-defense, I don\u2019t want to have that conversation,\u201d she stated, admitting her desire to willfully ignore key facts of the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question was, was it legal for Kyle Rittenhouse, as a minor, to even be carrying a semi-automatic weapon. Who\u2019s going to get held accountable just for that piece? Forget about everything else that you heard at the trial,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Notably,&nbsp;Judge Bruce Schroeder ultimately \u201cruled in favor of the defense\u2019s request to have a firearms charge against Kyle Rittenhouse dismissed in Kenosha County Court,\u201d noting that the \u201cWisconsin statute was unclear about exceptions for those over 16-years-old but under 18-years-old if the gun were a long-barreled rifle,\u201d as Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/2nd-amendment\/2021\/11\/15\/watch-judge-dismisses-weapons-charge-against-kyle-rittenhouse\/\">detailed<\/a>. The rifle was&nbsp;not short-barreled.<\/p>\n<p>However, Sarsour made it clear she was not interested in details of the trial and continued, calling for accountability from the police, asking \u201cwhy weren\u2019t they protecting the people\u201d if it was true there were rioters in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo my question was, why did a 17-year-old boy believe that he had to take matters into his own hands when the law enforcement [was there]. So law enforcement must be held accountable,\u201d she added, making another comparison to the 2014 case of 12-year-old&nbsp;Tamir Rice, who was fatally shot by police. He was&nbsp;carrying a replica toy gun at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo if you\u2019re going to defend Kyle Rittenhouse to carry a semiautomatic rifle, and you\u2019re not going to defend Tamir Rice and you were silent on Tamir Rice, then you are a hypocrite,\u201d Sarsour said, attempting to connect two completely difference cases.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis chimed in, bringing the conversation back to race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I say in the world, whiteness causes us to have two legal systems, I want someone to show me that I\u2019m wrong,\u201d Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can\u2019t,\u201d Sarsour replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law for black and brown people in this nation is not the same one as the one for the white people in this nation. Period.
