Construction will begin next summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Long Beach Unified School District\u2019s inclusive facilities are spaces that serve students with disabilities, students of all gender identities and expressions, and students who desire privacy for any number of reasons. Wilson\u2019s new aquatic center will feature an inclusive, all-gender locker room.<\/p>\n<p>LBUSD\u2019s Facilities staff will share information on the new aquatic center, including details on the locker room\u2019s safety and privacy features. If you\u2019d like to submit questions in advance of the meeting, please email schoolbonds@lbschools.net.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your participation and support.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <i>Wilson Loudspeaker<\/i> article noted that participants were told in a PowerPoint presentation to a focus group by LBUSD operative Shawn Abbate, \u201cPrivacy is a concern for many students faced with the prospect of communal showers and large undifferentiated changing areas. It would seem that most individuals \u2013 irrespective of their gender identity and expression \u2013 don\u2019t want to change in the open or bathe in gang showers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But parents were uncomfortable with the idea of boys and girls mixing in various states of undress in a school locker room.
