As Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/law-and-order\/2020\/08\/31\/donald-trump-kyle-rittenhouse-was-big-trouble-when-rioters-attacked-him\/\">noted<\/a>:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"23\">\n<p>President Donald Trump defended Illinois teenager Kyle Rittenhouse after he shot and killed two rioters during riots Kenosha, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>The president said that the case was still under investigation, but that he watched the videotape of the altercation that led to the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was trying to get away from them, I guess, it looks like and he fell and then they very violently attacked him,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess he was in very big trouble, he probably would have been killed, but it\u2019s under investigation,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>PolitiFact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2020\/sep\/01\/donald-trump\/trump-paints-false-picture-kyle-rittenhouse-shooti\/\">marked<\/a> Trump\u2019s analysis of the incident as \u201cfalse,\u201d claiming: \u201cTrump\u2019s claim leaves out vital context: that Rittenhouse ran away from protesters after prosecutors say he had already shot and killed someone.\u201d The website added that Trump created \u201can incendiary and false picture\u201d of events \u2014 i.e. more \u201cincendiary\u201d than the idea that Rittenhouse had murdered peaceful protesters in cold blood.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The post was later updated (original emphasis) \u201c<em>to make clear that we are rating whether Trump described what happened accurately, not the separate question of whether what happened amounted to self-defense or, as charged by local prosecutors, homicide and other offenses<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it still contained the following claim:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p>The president correctly describes some minor details about that night. But overall, his comments grossly mischaracterize what happened \u2014 leaving out that by the time of the events he described, prosecutors say Rittenhouse had already shot and killed a man.<\/p>\n<p>In this fact-check, we are not examining the question of whether Rittenhouse acted in self-defense, as his attorney claims. We are examining whether Trump is providing an accurate description of what happened by focusing on only a portion of the events of that night.<\/p>\n<p>He is not.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>PolitiFact was wrong: even the prosecution in the case conceded that the mob \u201cviolently attacked\u201d Rittenhouse. Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger tried to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/15\/prosecutor-argues-for-vigilante-action-against-rittenhouse-mob-had-right-to-chase-him\/\">argue<\/a> that the crowd was&nbsp;<em>justified<\/em> in doing so, to stop a so-called \u201cactive shooter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump was right; PolitiFact was wrong. The PolitiFact website has yet to update its \u201cFalse\u201d rating, as of this writing.<\/p>\n<p>PolitiFact has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/16\/politifact-rittenhouse-gun-judge-charge\/\">criticized<\/a> for claiming that Rittenhouse was not legally in possession of his rifle; prosecutors eventually conceded that he was.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
