A struggle for Mobley\u2019s purse ensued before Journee ran up to the assailant and punched him in the face.<\/p>\n<p>Police have identified the alleged suspect as 29-year-old Demetrius Jackson, the <em>Miami Herald<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI fought back. I had to save my mom,\u201d Journee <a href=\"https:\/\/wsvn.com\/news\/local\/florida\/9-year-old-fights-purse-snatching-crook-to-protect-mom-is-awarded-by-police\/\">told<\/a> WSVN.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect then allegedly threw Journee to the ground and made off with Mobley\u2019s purse.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Miami Herald<\/em> reported the purse was holding a \u201cSamsung cellphone, gum, several bank cards, a Coach wallet, $40 cash and her concealed carry permit, according to Jackson\u2019s arrest affidavit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe actually jumped up and chased him four houses down the block with me chasing her, calling her back,\u201d Mobley said at a news conference, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>For her efforts in the heat of the moment, Journee received a certificate, a medal, and a Target gift card from the West Palm Beach Police Department, according to the <em>Miami Herald<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The West Palm Beach Police Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/westpalmbeachpolice\/posts\/10158963425943167\">shared<\/a>&nbsp;on Facebook photos of Journee\u2019s visit to its Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChief Adderley honored a 9-year old child today for bravery as she ran to her mother\u2019s defense to fend off a brazen robber,\u201d the post reads. \u201cAn #arrest was swiftly made in this case.
