Ron DeSantis (R) on Thursday defended his past actions throughout the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, including his moves effectively barring local governments from imposing fines and mandates that unnecessarily restrictsan individual\u2019s rights, addressing his critics with a blunt, \u201cYou\u2019re damn right I overruled them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people say hey, these local governments wanted to lock down businesses, wanted to force mandates. They wanted to keep the kids locked out of school. Yeah, you\u2019re damn right I overruled them on that,\u201d he said to applause during a press conference in Brandon, Florida, on Thursday, where he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/18\/gov-desantis-signs-legislation-protecting-florida-jobs-against-vaccine-mandates\/\">signed<\/a> legislation aimed to protect Floridians from losing their jobs over forced vaccinations by employers. DeSantis added:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>The fact of the matter is, you don\u2019t have the right to do wrong. And if I had not stepped in last year and made sure these local governments couldn\u2019t lock you down, couldn\u2019t mandate, wouldn\u2019t let them fine \u2014 we had kids in school last year because of me, not because of them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In May, DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2021\/05\/03\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-landmark-legislation-to-ban-vaccine-passports-and-stem-government-overreach\/\">signed<\/a> legislation allowing the governor to \u201d invalidate a local emergency order if it unnecessarily restricts individual rights or liberties\u201d via SB 2006. He also made waves throughout the year after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/11\/gov-desantis-cancels-local-coronavirus-fines-in-florida-we-want-to-make-sure-folks-are-protected\/\">canceling<\/a>&nbsp;fines imposed on individuals who violated mandates of local governments.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Most recently, DeSantis floated using&nbsp;federal coronavirus funds to pay fines directed to Florida businesses that defy the federal vaccine mandate, which Florida and others are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/16\/ron-desantis-floats-using-federal-coronavirus-funds-to-pay-vaccine-mandate-fines\/\">challenging<\/a> in court.<\/p>\n<p>During the same presser on Thursday, DeSantis reiterated that President Biden does not have the authority to do what he is doing with vaccine mandates, attempting to force employers with 100 employees or more to mandate the vaccine or implement vigorous testing requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so the question is, do we actually have a Constitution that constrains people like Biden, or is it just when he loses patience, he can do whatever the hell he wants to?\u201d DeSantis asked. \u201cNo, I\u2019ll take the Constitution, thank you very much.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
