Cotton\u2019s Thursday tweet came in response to U.S. tennis star Serena Williams\u2019 calls for accountability in China over the disappearance of player Peng Shuai. Williams told <i>USA Today<\/i> that she is \u201cdevastated and shocked to hear about the news\u201d of Shuai\u2019s sudden disappearance from public. \u201cI hope she is safe and found as soon as possible. But days after her post, her Weibo account \u2014 China\u2019s version of Twitter \u2014 was shut down, and Shuai disappeared from public view.<\/p>\n<p>Later, a strange <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/11\/18\/womens-tennis-chairman-skeptical-of-all-is-well-email-from-missing-peng-shuai\/\" target=\" _blank\" rel=\"noopener\">message<\/a> that the Chinese government says came from Shuai was posted in which \u201cShuai\u201d recanted the accusation and said that all is well. However, Shuai has still not been seen in public or verifiably heard from since her social media account was shut down.<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s Tennis Association (WTA) also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/11\/15\/womens-tennis-china-tennis-star-rape\/\" target=\" _blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> for a full investigation into the whereabouts and safety of Shuai.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"13.217105263158\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Statement by Steve Simon, WTA Chairman &amp; CEO:<\/p>\n<p>The statement released today by Chinese state media concerning Peng Shuai only raises my concerns as to her safety and whereabouts.
