Text accompanying the photo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=439414627549488&amp;set=a.286235996200686\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reads<\/a>, \u201cTechnology after death in Japan..! The graves of the Japanese are equipped with a special QR code for each grave, which shows you pictures, information and a brief biography of the life of the dead!!\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=594990931675275&amp;set=gm.3009631445978107\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Another iteration<\/a> has been shared over 1,300 times.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact conducted a reverse image search and found the picture <a href=\"http:\/\/www.china.org.cn\/china\/2015-04\/01\/content_35216560_3.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">actually<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecns.cn\/hd\/2015-04-01\/detail-ifytxtex5133454.shtml#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shows<\/a> fake headstones in China that display memorial information about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/japan\/nanjing-massacre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nanking Massacre<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/news\/nation-world\/world\/article32532561.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bombing of Chongqing<\/a> victims&nbsp;when the QR codes are scanned. The Nanking Massacre took place in 1937, when Japanese soldiers killed an estimated 100,000 to 300,000 people in Nanking, China, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/event\/Nanjing-Massacre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Encyclopedia Britannica<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The photo of the markers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.china.org.cn\/china\/2015-04\/01\/content_35216560_3.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can be seen<\/a> on China.org.cn, a website published by the <a href=\"http:\/\/english.scio.gov.cn\/aboutscio\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State Council Information Office<\/a> and the China International Publishing Group, where the caption states, \u201cA visitor scans the QR code on the fake memorial gravestone for victims of the Nanjing Massacre on March 31, 2015.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chinadaily.com.cn\/china\/2015-04\/01\/content_19966811.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China Daily<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecns.cn\/hd\/2015-04-01\/detail-ifytxtex5133454.shtml#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ECNS<\/a>, both Chinese state-affiliated outlets, also published the picture in 2015 with similar descriptions. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/12\/07\/fact-check-joe-biden-walking-boot-left-right-wrong-foot-major-dog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Image Claims To Show Joe Biden Wearing His Walking Boot On The Wrong Foot)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cVisitors scan QR codes to commemorate victims of the Nanjing Massacre and Bombing of Chongqing, both committed by Japanese troops in China during World War II, at the theme park Foreigner Street in Southwest China\u2019s Chongqing municipality, March 31, 2015,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecns.cn\/hd\/2015-04-01\/detail-ifytxtex5133454.shtml#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reads<\/a> the photo\u2019s caption on ECNS. \u201cVisitors can take part in an online memorial, by lighting candles, presenting flowers, ringing bells and planting trees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are instances of Japan utilizing QR codes on graves.
