Were you a member?\u201d Kennedy asked.<\/p>\n<p>Omarova answered, \u201cSenator, I was born and grew up in the Soviet Union.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, ma\u2019am, but were you a member of that organization?\u201d Kennedy persisted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody in that country was a member of the Komsomol, which was the Communist Youth organization,\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you were a member?\u201d Kenndy asked again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was a part of normal progress in school,\u201d she answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHave you resigned from The Young Communists?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou grow out of it with age automatically,\u201d she answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you send them a letter, though, resigning?\u201d Kennedy pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, this was many, many years ago. In 2019, not 30 years ago, in a Canadian documentary, you called the financial services industry \u201ca quintessential ass**** industry.\u201d You wrote a paper called \u201cSystemically Significant Prices\u201d calling for the federal government to set wages, food, gas prices.In 2020, you wrote a paper called \u201cThe People\u2019s Ledger,\u201d where you said we need to abolish bank accounts and make everybody set up an account at the Fed where the federal government will have access to your data. In 2020, you wrote another paper called \u201cThe Climate Case for a national Investment Authority,\u201d where you said what we need to do to the oil and gas industry is have the federal government bankrupt them so we can tackle climate change. In 2019, you joined the Facebook group, a Marxist Facebook group, to discuss socialist and anti-capitalist views.\u201cNow, that\u2019s what I see from your record, and you have the right to believe every one of these things.
