Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) told Breitbart News in an exclusive statement Thursday that Saule Omarova, President Joe Biden\u2019s Comptroller of the Currency nominee, and others that believe bitcoin is a threat to national security are \u201cscared\u201d of relinquishing control over Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Lummis, a pro-cryptocurrency lawmaker, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/18\/biden-nominee-saule-omarova-worries-bitcoin-might-undermine-national-security\/\">asked<\/a> Omarova during her nomination hearing if she believed that bitcoin served as a national security threat to the United States.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_18248066\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"34\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Saule-Omarova-banking-housing-urban-affairs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18248066\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Saule-Omarova-banking-housing-urban-affairs.jpg\" alt width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Screenshot<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Lummis asked Omarova, \u201cDo you think that bitcoin undermines national security?\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\" readability=\"8.5\">\n<div id=\"attachment_18810594\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"37\">\n<p>Omarova said, \u201cI would worry if all of our financial transactions were up to some blockchain system, where you know various actors might actually be located in other countries not particularly friendly to us, control the functioning of that system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Comptroller of the Currency Nomination Hearing for Saule Omarova\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vWcQqQfsklY?start=7042&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Lummis told Breitbart News that Omarova\u2019s concerns about digital currencies only exhibit her desire for more financial control over the American people. The Wyoming conservative said that bitcoin allows Americans to save amidst rising inflation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose that believe bitcoin is a threat to national security are scared of relinquishing any control over the American people. The United States government continues to debase the American dollar by spending trillions of dollars without a second thought,\u201d Lummis said. \u201cBitcoin is a good store of value and more and more Americans are looking to store their savings in bitcoin and other digital assets to make sure their retirement isn\u2019t jeopardized by our government\u2019s irresponsible actions.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Asked by Lummis, Omarova also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/11\/18\/omarova-refuses-to-rule-out-a-repeat-of-operation-choke-point\/\">refused<\/a> to pledge on Thursday not to politicize lending in a repeat of the Barack Obama administration\u2019s Operation Choke Point.<\/p>\n<p>Omarova, if confirmed, would have wide regulatory power over cryptocurrency companies, including her ability to block charter approvals.<\/p>\n<p>She has also exhibited anti-cryptocurrency writings in her academic papers.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cNew Tech v. New Deal: Fintech as a Systemic Phenomenon,\u201d Omarova <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.law.yale.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1545&amp;context=yjreg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">wrote<\/a>,&nbsp;\u201cCrypto-assets \u2026 are effectively untethered from\u2026any productive activity in the real economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Omarova has also called for the creation of a central bank digital currency, or CBDC, which would massively expand federal government control over America\u2019s financial system.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">A former senior government official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/09\/biden-banking-nominee-would-have-most-powerful-least-accountable-position-over-cryptocurrencies-banking\/\">told<\/a> Breitbart News, <\/span>\u201cAnd, why do they want to do that? Because eventually, they want to be able to decide which transactions to approve and disapprove of. You know, that\u2019s what it\u2019s ultimately all about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former senior government official argued:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p>\u2026 the political left doesn\u2019t like crypto, because right now the left is all about command and control, they want to control your thinking, they want to control your spending, etc. And, crypto doesn\u2019t allow that because there is no person. It\u2019s a decentralized network for peer-to-peer exchange where nobody can tell you what to spend your money on. That\u2019s a problem. If you believe in controlling people.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Omarova has even appeared to blame the rise of cryptocurrencies in expanding access to finance.<\/p>\n<p>She <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/pdf.zlibcdn.com\/dtoken\/830566ada722d6b07bd2a26fc7f90737\/jfr\/fjaa004.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">wrote<\/a> in \u201cTechnology v.
