The recommendation will be entertained by the full Metro Transit Authority Board of Directors on December 2, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.2608695652174\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The LA Metro board will soon consider recommendations to eventually replace armed law enforcement officers on the transit system with unarmed, uniformed \u2018transit ambassadors.\u2019  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RLILvxZQom\">https:\/\/t.co\/RLILvxZQom<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 FOX 11 Los Angeles (@FOXLA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FOXLA\/status\/1461322093954580480?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva slammed the recommendation at a press conference Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cThis is the definition of a \u2018woke\u2019 advisory group, and of course what\u2019s the recommendation? Let\u2019s get rid of all cops. Literally,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/la-metro-considering-to-replace-armed-law-enforcement-with-unarmed-transit-ambassadors\">said<\/a>, according to Fox LA. \u201cThere\u2019s an absolute absence of people that represent the average commuter, the average worker.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Villanueva also stated such a move would perpetuate disorderliness and dysfunction:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cAny crime that occurs on any bus, any light rail, any subway \u2013 the victim would have to figure out who to call from whatever the local agency is, whoever picks up 911 depending on their signal, and figure out who\u2019s jurisdiction it is,\u201d Villanueva said per Fox L.A. \u201cThey\u2019re flipping the pyramid upside down and now the \u2018transit ambassadors\u2019 who are not law enforcement would be the main source of providing the illusion of security.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13374817\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"32\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/virus-outbreak-california-infected-inmates-dec-2018-file-photo-los-angeles-county-sheriff-alex.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13374817\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/virus-outbreak-california-infected-inmates-dec-2018-file-photo-los-angeles-county-sheriff-alex.jpg\" alt=\"The Associated Press\" width=\"864\" height=\"634\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. Hong)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Chief Gene Harris of the San Gabriel Police Department and Los Angeles County Police Chief\u2019s Association slammed the Public Safety Advisory Board\u2019s recommendation, per Fox LA:<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"16\">\n<p><span>You\u2019re going to take away the entity that is highest-trained, best and specifically trained for transit service response, trained for homeless response and outreach, trained for mental health and outreach and response, and you\u2019re going to eliminate that, and then you\u2019re going to hope that\u2026the 45 agencies along the transit and bus lines can step in and take care of that on a moving train, a moving bus, or a moving target as it were, then we are sadly mistaken.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Metro released a statement on the heels of the sheriff\u2019s department\u2019s criticism, per Fox L.A.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cL.A. Metro\u2019s number one priority is the safety of our riders and our employees, and we will make sure that any changes to our public safety systems are consistent with the values of Metro and the Metro Board,\u201d the statement said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe have recommended that our Board approve funding for the remaining six months of our law enforcement contracts with the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Sheriff\u2019s Department and Long Beach Police Department as well as authorize an extension of up to one-year,\u201d the statement continued. \u201c<\/span><span>We believe this will give Metro\u2019s Public Safety Advisory Committee sufficient time to finalize its long-term recommendations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In its press release, the LASD highlighted the number of crimes that have occurred on the train in recent years.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn the past three years, there have been 6 murders, 26 rapes, and 1,450 robberies or assaults on the Metro.
