Jon Tester (D-MT) said Thursday he has \u201csignificant concerns\u201d with Saule Omarova, President Joe Biden\u2019s Comptroller of the Currency nominee.<\/p>\n<p>Tester said during a Senate Banking Committee nomination hearing Omarova has called to \u201cbankrupt\u201d natural gas, oil, and coal companies to facilitate climate change policies.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class>\u201cFor certain troubled industries and firms that are in transition. And here what I\u2019m thinking about is primarily coal industry and oil and gas industry,\u201d Omarova&nbsp;<a class href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/10\/bidens-comptroller-of-the-currency-nominee-declares-war-on-fossil-fuels-go-bankrupt-to-tackle-climate-change\/\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\" readability=\"53.834645669291\">\n<p class>\u201cA lot of the smaller players in that industry are going to probably go bankrupt in short order \u2013 at least we want them to go bankrupt if we want to tackle climate change, right?\u201d Omarova added.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18808866\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"40\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1236642061.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18808866\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1236642061-1024x680-1.jpg\" alt width=\"990\" height=\"657\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Ranking member Pat Toomey (R-PA), is seen on screen as he questions nominee to be the Comptroller of the Currency Saule Omarova (L) as she testifies before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee during a hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on November 18, 2021. (JIM WATSON\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class>He also expressed concerns about her opposition to the 2018&nbsp;Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act, which provided regulatory relief for small and medium-sized banks from the Dodd-Frank banking legislation.<\/p>\n<p class>Tester <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChuckRossDC\/status\/1461358530250739717?s=20\">got<\/a> Omarova to concede she once opposed the legislation, worrying the bill might \u201cindirectly\u201d help large financial institutions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class>Other Democrats also said they have concerns about Omarova\u2019s papers.<\/p>\n<p class>Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChuckRossDC\/status\/1461360630984704007?s=20\">said<\/a> he was \u201cpretty disappointed\u201d in Omarova\u2019s critiques of Dodd-Frank relief bill, which Tester and Warner have cosponsored.<\/p>\n<p class>Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), the Senate Banking Banking Committee ranking member, said during his opening statement that Omarova\u2019s ideas amount to a \u201csocialist manifesto for American financial services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class>He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"19\">\n<p>Prof. Omarova may also claim her writings are just thought experiments. But for the last decade, she\u2019s been a consistent, forceful advocate for these radical ideas in her writings, public statements, and in testimony before Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Taken in their totality, her ideas amount to a socialist manifesto for American financial services: nationalizing the banking system, putting in price controls, and creating a command-and-control economy where the government allocates resources instead of free men and women making their own decisions about the goods and services they want to buy and sell in an open market.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThese are exactly the kind of socialist ideas that have failed everywhere in the world they\u2019ve been tried,\u201d Toomey concluded. \u201cIn my view, Prof. Omarova\u2019s policy views are too radical, and preserving the prosperity that our free market economy makes possible is too important, to make her our nation\u2019s top banking regulator.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><i>Sean Moran is a congressional reporter for Breitbart News.
