The prosecution confirmed that fact during the trial when it failed to produce evidence of any kind that Rittenhouse was a \u201cwhite supremacist\u201d or had racial motivations. The owners of the car dealership who asked Rittenhouse and others for help were Indian-American.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><strong>2. Rittenhouse shot first:&nbsp;<\/strong>Actually, a rioter named&nbsp;Joshua Ziminski was the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/580073-detective-shot-fired-before-rittenhouse-began-shooting\">first<\/a> to fire shots during the fateful mel\u00e9e at the car dealership that Rittenhouse had rushed to protect. Though Rittenhouse testified that he did not see or hear the shots, they were the first ones fired that evening, shortly before Rittenhouse shot his first pursuer, a rioter named Joseph Rosenbaum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Rosenbaum was a \u201cpeaceful protester\u201d:&nbsp;<\/strong>Though the prosecution tried to portray Rosenbaum as a concerned citizen who just happened to show up at the riot, even Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger had to admit that Rosenbaum had been committing violent acts that night, including setting things on fire, and using the \u201cN-word\u201d to threaten other people. Binger tried to make light of the crimes Rosenbaum committed \u2014 an odd strategy, considering he is prosecuting Ziminski for arson.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Rittenhouse was never in danger:<\/strong> The prosecution tried to argue that the defendant was never in mortal danger, and that he could have retreated in a safer direction. But even the prosecution acknowledged that Rittenhouse was trying to \u201csave his own skin,\u201d as if that were a bad thing. So Assistant District Attorney James Kraus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/2nd-amendment\/2021\/11\/15\/watch-prosecutor-says-rittenhouse-should-have-let-mob-attack-him-because-everybody-takes-a-beating-sometimes\/\">tried<\/a> a new strategy: he argued that the defendant should have allowed himself to be attacked rather than shooting, because \u201ceverybody takes a beating sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><strong>5. The \u201cvictims\u201d were unarmed:&nbsp;<\/strong>Rosenbaum did not attack Rittenhouse with a weapon, though he wielded a chain earlier in the evening. But Anthony Huber smashed Rittenhouse over the head with a skateboard \u2014 twice \u2014 and Gaige Grosskreutz, who was wounded, had a pistol that he was not even licensed to carry. Grosskreutz testified that he had pointed the gun at Rittenhouse before the defendant fired \u2014 a shocking admission that seemed to confirm Rittenhouse\u2019s self-defense argument.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Rittenhouse broke gun laws:<\/strong> The media claimed that Rittenhouse had broken gun laws because he was too young to be in possession of a weapon, or had driven it across state lines. Politifact even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/16\/politifact-rittenhouse-gun-judge-charge\/\">ran<\/a> a \u201cfact-check\u201d against the claim that he was \u201cperfectly\u201d entitled to have his AR-15 rifle. But as prosecutors eventually admitted, Rittenhouse was legally in possession of the rifle because he was over the age of 16 and it was long-barreled. It was also kept at a friend\u2019s house in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.&nbsp;Rittenhouse&nbsp;\u201ccrossed state lines\u201d:&nbsp;<\/strong>It is true that Rittenhouse is from Antioch, Illinois. But he was working last summer as a lifeguard in Wisconsin, and his father lives in Kenosha \u2014 a fact that tripped the prosecution when they tried to portray Rittenhouse as a kind of outsider, a \u201cchaos tourist\u201d who neither cared about nor was familiar with the local community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Rittenhouse\u2019s mother drove him&nbsp;to the riot:<\/strong> This myth, still <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/0rf\/status\/1460795152516194311?s=12\">propagated<\/a> by CNN, was exploded at the trial. She was not even in the state; Rittenhouse arrived on the scene with other people, as even the prosecution <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/kyle-rittenhouses-mother-did-not-183807767.html\">admitted<\/a> during the trial.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. Rittenhouse came to kill:<\/strong> Rittenhouse\u2019s own testimony provided strong evidence that he had come to help. He offered medical assistance to rioters \u2014 even though he lied about being qualified to do so \u2014 and did not shoot anyone who did not attack him, even if they were armed and dangerous. One witness testified that Rittenhouse had even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/law-and-order\/2021\/11\/11\/witness-rittenhouse-tried-to-de-escalate-riot-not-cause-violence\/\">deescalated<\/a> a conflict.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. The Kenosha protests were \u201cpeaceful\u201d:&nbsp;<\/strong>The jury saw lengthy footage of riots; what they did not see, but which emerged in media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10203911\/Sole-survivor-Kyle-Rittenhouse-career-criminal-charges-dropped-just-trial.html\">reports<\/a> during the trial, was that the alleged \u201cvictims\u201d all had criminal records. That would not, in itself, justify the shootings, but the high proportion of convicted violent criminals among the \u201cpeaceful protesters\u201d was a revelation.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
