Biden, giving remarks to a crowd of roughly 30-40 people in the White House\u2019s State Dining Room, said the bills \u201cshare a goal of helping law enforcement officers and first responders be the protectors and the partners our communities need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you look at what our communities need, and what our law enforcement is being asked to do, it\u2019s going to require more resources, not fewer resources,\u201d Biden explained. \u201cThat\u2019s why my administration is investing in the community policing we know works.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Protecting America\u2019s First Responders Act is directed at law enforcement and first responders injured in the line of duty. The law will ensure these individuals are able to receive necessary benefits quickly and it was authored by Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Democratic New York Se. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.<\/p>\n<p>This bill passed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grassley.senate.gov\/news\/news-releases\/senate-passes-grassley-gillibrand-bill-improving-access-to-benefits-for-disabled-officers-and-their-families\">unanimous<\/a> support in the Senate and <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2021338\">opposed<\/a> by three Republicans \u2013 Reps. Chip Roy of Texas, Barry Loudermilk of Georgia and Thomas Massie of Kentucky &nbsp;\u2013 in the House. Biden described this bill as \u201creally important\u201d and detailed how first responders \u201crun toward the danger while others are running away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The COPS Act, introduced by Grassley and Democratic Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Mastro, offers confidentiality in most cases for federal law enforcement <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/joe-biden-first-responders-police-refuse-vaccine-mandates-fired\/\">officers<\/a> wishing to use peer counseling services. Biden highlighted the mental toll individuals can suffer from in dealing with \u201cterrible incidents\u201d and said it\u2019s the nation\u2019s job to \u201chelp them recover from the invisible wounds that their work can inflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy hope is by giving more officers access to confidentiality and high-quality mental health resources, we\u2019re gonna reduce the stigma around seeking help,\u201d Biden said, adding that he hopes offering help will allow for law enforcement officers to \u201cbetter help the communities they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This bill passed unanimously in the Senate and was <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2021337\">voted down<\/a> by Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Cori Bush of Missouri and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan in the House.<\/p>\n<p>The third bill Biden signed \u2013 the Jaime Zapata and Victor Federal Officer and Employees Protection Act \u2013 was introduced by Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas and Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas and passed through the Senate and House with unanimous support, Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-sign-bipartisan-bills-support-police-federal-law-enforcement\">reported<\/a>. This bill allows for individuals who have killed or tried to kill American federal officers serving overseas to be prosecuted in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>This bill is named in part after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agent Jaime Zapata, who was one of two agents attacked by a drug cartel in Mexico in 2011.
