Andrew Cuomo (D), who stepped down from his position during a sexual assault <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/former-new-york-governor-cuomo-charged-with-sex-crime\/\">investigation<\/a>, lost approval on Tuesday to publish his 2020 memoir, <em>Politico<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/states\/new-york\/albany\/story\/2021\/11\/16\/state-ethics-board-revokes-approval-of-cuomos-book-deal-1393877\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A New York Joint Commission on Public Ethics revoked its approval of Cuomo\u2019s book, <em>American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic,<\/em> and will require him to \u201creapply for authorization.\u201d Besides being charged with sex crimes, the former governor is accused of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/05\/report-andrew-cuomo-aides-rewrote-report-hide-nursing-home-deaths\/\">covering up<\/a> thousands of coronavirus deaths during the pandemic \u2014 the same time frame featured in his memoir.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIf his application is denied, the board \u2014 known by the acronym JCOPE \u2014 could attempt to force the former governor to surrender the $5.1 million he was paid for authoring,\u201d according to the report. (CARLO ALLEGRI\/POOL\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Cuomo, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/14\/report-andrew-cuomo-considering-run-ny-attorney-general-post\/\">considering<\/a> running for the New York attorney general post, reportedly said the decision displays&nbsp;\u201cthe height of hypocrisy.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThese JCOPE members are acting outside the scope of their authority and are carrying the water of the politicians who appointed them,\u201d Cuomo spokesperson Rich Azzopardi said after the vote. \u201cIt is the height of hypocrisy for [Gov. Kathy] Hochul and the legislature\u2019s appointees to take this position, given that these elected officials routinely use their own staff for political and personal assistance on their own time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, several state workers allegedly \u201caided the governor as he authored the memoir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn at least two occasions, junior staff were asked to print pages from the draft at the Capitol then deliver them to the Executive Mansion,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n<p>The ethics commission has reportedly been trying to revoke its approval since summertime and said the disgraced governor \u201cmisrepresented how the book would be written.\u201d Cuomo\u2019s office claims everyone who assisted did so on a volunteer or de minimis basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur counsel\u2019s request to JCOPE was clear, saying \u2018no government resources\u2019 would be used \u2014 consistent with that representation, people who volunteered on this project did so on their own time,\u201d Azzopardi said in a statement.
