John Barrasso (R., Wyo.) accused her of violating her own department&#8217;s ethics requirements by telling voters to vote against a contentious Maine ballot initiative about the construction of a major proposed power line. Barrasso said Granholm&#8217;s political activity, first <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/jennifer-granholm-violated-hatch-act-in-maine-elections-watchdog-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> by the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> prior to the November elections, was &#8220;irresponsible&#8221; and &#8220;contrary to the principles of federalism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/hc\/services\/benefits\/new-employee-orientation\/ethics-fourteen-principles-ethical-conduct-federal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ethics guidelines<\/a> mandate that officials &#8220;shall act impartially and not give preferential treatment to any private organization or individual.&#8221; Barrasso alleges that Granholm&#8217;s advocacy violates this principle, given the massive spending for the power line by green energy companies politically aligned with the administration.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;It is imperative American citizens have faith in the impartiality of political appointees,&#8221; Barrasso wrote. &#8220;Equally important is the maintenance of the highest ethical standards by representatives of our federal government.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Granholm posted on social media on Oct. 28, just days before Maine voters weighed in, in support of a power line project. &#8220;<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">I hope Mainers vote NO on ONE to keep this project moving and reliable, affordable, clean energy <\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">flowing!&#8221; Granholm wrote.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.622641509434\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NECEC_ME?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NECEC_ME<\/a> transmission line will bring clean energy to New England and reduce carbon emissions equivalent to taking 700k cars off the road. Granholm did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"im\"> Barrasso isn&#8217;t alone in finding Granholm&#8217;s campaigning problematic. The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/jennifer-granholm-violated-hatch-act-in-maine-elections-watchdog-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/jennifer-granholm-violated-hatch-act-in-maine-elections-watchdog-says\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1637253522171000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1U9SwqwqG9qWHB2xr235jF\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\">submitted<\/a> a Hatch Act complaint about her questionable campaign activity, alleging that she violated the act that prevents administration officials from using their government roles to influence politics. The group also cited her campaign activity in the Virginia gubernatorial election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Barrasso&#8217;s letter is the latest ethical quandary Granholm finds herself in.
