Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, is demanding answers from Attorney General Merrick Garland about his October testimony to that same panel about the FBI\u2019s establishment of a \u201cthreat tag\u201d to label and characterize concerned parents of schoolchildren, The Daily Signal reports.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan cited a document furnished by a whistleblower that shows the FBI has started using a specific tag, EDUOFFICIALS, to track what they deem to be threats related to school personnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now in receipt of a protected disclosure from a [Justice] Department whistleblower showing that the FBI\u2019s counterterrorism division is compiling and categorizing threat assessments related to parents, including a document directing FBI personnel to use a specific \u2018threat tag\u2019 to track potential investigations,\u201d Jordan wrote in a Nov. 16 letter to Garland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis disclosure provides specific evidence that federal law enforcement operationalized counterterrorism tools at the behest of a left-wing special-interest group against concerned parents,\u201d Jordan added, referring to a Sept. 29 letter sent to Joe Biden by the National School Boards Association and since revealed to have been discussed with the White House in advance.<\/p>\n<p>The association wrote: \u201cAmerica\u2019s public schools and its education leaders are under an immediate threat,\u201d and requested \u201cfederal law enforcement and other assistance to deal with the growing number of threats of violence and acts of intimidation occurring across the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garland issued a memo directing the FBI to pursue \u201cstrategies for addressing threats against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff\u201d on Oct. 4. Jordan\u2019s letter cites an Oct. 20 email sent by Timothy R. Langan Jr. of the FBI\u2019s Counterterrorism Division and Calvin Shivers of the FBI\u2019s criminal division.
