Jim Jordan (R-OH), Republican leader of the House Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Won&#8217;t Say Parents are &#8220;Primary&#8221; Stakeholders in Children&#8217;s Education <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SWLlXh6MGx\">pic.twitter.com\/SWLlXh6MGx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1444035005546631169?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 1, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Republican lawmakers cited the NSBA letter to Biden in which the organization\u2019s top officials, Viola M. Garcia, Ed.D., NSBA president, and Chip Slaven, Esq., NSBA interim executive director and CEO, wrote that \u201cmalice, violence, and threats\u201d against school officials \u201ccould be the equivalent of a form of domestic terrorism or hate crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The NSBA letter suggested Biden utilize federal laws such as the Patriot Act to determine if parents voicing concerns about issues such as mask mandates and the teaching of tenets of Critical Race Theory could be identified as possible \u201cdomestic terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost notably, as an example of domestic terrorism, the NSBA cited an incident in which a father angrily confronted members at a school board meeting in Loudoun County, Virginia, about the heinous sexual assault of his daughter,\u201d Jordan and Foxx wrote, asserting:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>Concerned parents voicing their strong opposition to controversial curricula at local schools are not domestic terrorists. Parents have an undisputed right to direct the upbringing and education of their children. When parents cross the line to commit a violent act or issue a criminal threat, state and local authorities are best-equipped to handle these violations of state law. We must not tolerate the Biden Administration\u2019s collusion with a special interest group to use the federal law enforcement apparatus to intimidate and silence parents.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Education Department\u2019s role in this ill-conceived effort to target concerned parents requires immediate congressional attention,\u201d the two Republicans told Cardona, requesting all documents regarding communications with NSBA, DOJ, and the White House regarding the NSBA letter be sent to them no later than November 30.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Among the documents requested from Cardona are those \u201cbetween or among Department of Education employees or staff and White House employees or staff regarding Viola Garcia\u2019s appointment to the national Assessment Governing Board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks after NSBA sent its letter to Biden, the Education Department &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/news\/press-releases\/five-board-members-appointed-board-overseeing-nations-report-card\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;October 13 it had appointed Garcia to the National Assessment Governing Board, a top position that provides oversight regarding which subjects students will be tested on in the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the Nation\u2019s Report Card.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.0530973451327\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NSBAPublicEd?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NSBAPublicEd<\/a> was sending the &#8220;domestic terrorism&#8221; letter to President Biden, NSBA President  Viola Garcia was appointed to a prestigious position in the U.S. Department of Education.
