The cases are being compared by some left-wing observers, who note that the Arbery defendants are claiming that they were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/11\/16\/us\/ahmaud-arbery-killing-trial-day-8-tuesday\/index.html\">attempting<\/a> a legal citizens\u2019 arrest after they suspected Arbery of trespassing on a neighbor\u2019s property.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>But while Rittenhouse was attempting to protect property during a riot, the similarities end there.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rittenhouse\u2019s lawyers pointed to ample video and forensic evidence he was attacked by his alleged \u201cvictims\u201d \u2014 one of whom had a gun. The defense attorneys in the Arbery case have a tougher case to make that their clients\u2019 fears were reasonable.<\/p>\n<p>Arbery\u2019s death was also less politicized at the time \u2014 although that has changed, with accusations of a bias in jury selection, as only one black juror is represented on the panel.<\/p>\n<p>Arbery\u2019s death was widely condemned in 2020, and his family\u2019s attorneys also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/radio\/2020\/05\/25\/ahmaud-arberys-familys-lawyer-trumps-doj-has-been-very-active-in-our-case\/\">worked<\/a> with the Trump White House, which they said had been \u201cvery responsive\u201d in launching a federal investigation. The attorneys also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/06\/07\/george-floyd-lawyer-and-breitbart-news-joel-pollak-discuss-was-chaos-necessary-for-justice\/\">spoke with<\/a> conservative media, like Breitbart News, advocating for their client rather than a political side.<\/p>\n<p>One of the defense attorneys asked the judge last week to limit attendance in the gallery, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/12\/ahmaud-arbery-trial-lawyer-apologizes-for-black-pastors-comment\/\">saying<\/a>&nbsp;he didn\u2019t want \u201cany more black pastors\u201d who might influence the jury, after Al Sharpton attended. He later apologized to the court for the remark.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
