Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez confused a number of facts about fossil fuels in a video to her followers explaining why pipelines are bad for the country.<\/p>\n<p>The congresswoman mistakenly asserted that the Keystone XL and Line 3 pipelines were proposed to increase U.S. natural gas exports in the video she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CWMOldWINgV\/\">posted<\/a> on her Instagram account Saturday. The two pipelines would transport crude oil, not natural gas, from Canada into the U.S. as an import, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enbridge.com\/projects-and-infrastructure\/public-awareness\/minnesota-projects\/line-3-replacement-project\">according<\/a> to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcenergy.com\/operations\/oil-and-liquids\/keystone-pipeline-system\/\">operators<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you look at Keystone XL, and when you look at a lot of these other pipelines, people say, \u2018Oh, this is for energy, you know, independence in the United States,&#8217;\u201d Ocasio-Cortez stated during the video which has garnered more than 180,000 views. \u201cWe actually already produce enough to power our own country, whether you agree with it or not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of these pipelines are being built so that the United States can export and sell natural gas abroad,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd, you know, people make geopolitical arguments as to why that should be the case.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/15\/joe-biden-oil-gas-leases-new-mexico-native-american-tribes\/\">(RELATED: Biden Blocks Oil, Gas Leases In Large New Mexico Region At Request Of Native American Tribes)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/24\/biden-minnesota-enbridge-oil-pipeline-permit\/\">Line 3<\/a> has transported crude oil into the U.S. through Minnesota since the 1960s. Enbridge, the company that operates the pipeline, is currently constructing a $2.9 billion Line 3 replacement, but the company has faced <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/09\/pipeline-protest-minnesota-freedom-fund-kamala-harris\/\">intense resistance<\/a> from environmental activists.<\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez said that she believes Line 3 \u201cshould not exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Keystone XL pipeline would have similarly taken crude oil into the U.S. from western Canada. However, the pipeline \u2014 proposed as an extension to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcenergy.com\/siteassets\/pdfs\/oils-and-liquids\/keystone-pipeline-system\/transcanada-keystone-pipeline-system-map.pdf\">already existing line<\/a> that stretches from North Dakota to Texas \u2014 was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/09\/keystone-xl-pipeline-joe-biden-montana\/\">canceled<\/a> by its operator TC Energy after President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/01\/20\/executive-order-protecting-public-health-and-environment-and-restoring-science-to-tackle-climate-crisis\/\">revoked<\/a> its federal permit.<\/p>\n<p>More than 20 states have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/17\/states-lawsuit-joe-biden-administration-keystone-xl-pipeline-union-jobs-economy\/\">accused<\/a> the president of overstepping his constitutional authority in an ongoing federal lawsuit challenging the permit revocation. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/15\/jennifer-granholm-joe-biden-gasoline-prices-administration-policies\/\">(RELATED: Granholm Says Biden Is \u2018All Over\u2019 Gas Prices, Can\u2019t List Any Policies To Lower Prices)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President has certain prerogatives to act on behalf of the United States in foreign affairs,\u201d the lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/499174109\/15-States-Sue-Biden-Administration-Over-Keystone-Pipeline-Decision?secret_password=VKDT6lZOFQQSlm0NybeT\">stated<\/a>. \u201cBut as far as domestic law is concerned, the President must work with and abide by the limits set by Congress\u2014whether he likes them or not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans and fossil fuel industry advocates have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/27\/energy-prices-gasoline-republicans-kevin-mccarthy-democrats-oil-gas-joe-biden\/\">argued<\/a> that ensuring the U.S. has a steady, reliable supply of oil and natural gas protects national security.
