Yet the reality is that it\u2019s white women who benefit most. And it is advantage they pass on to their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She quoted Daniels writing that her book was a \u201croad map for undoing white womanhood and the destructiveness it causes.\u201d She asked, \u201cCan you unpack that a little bit?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniels answered, \u201cI think there\u2019s so many ways that we who are raised to be white women in this culture have all these kind of structures built around us that are geared for our comfort, our reassurance, our, you know, feeling safe in society\u2026 Part of what\u2019s happened from those early \u2018Take Back The Night\u2019 marches and even earlier feminism in the 70s and 80s, is that there\u2019s been this kind of takeover by sort of a white perspective, if you will, and I think that that takeover has really centered the concerns and causes of white women. Like we experience misogyny, we experience homophobia, all that stuff, but we\u2019re white, and so we\u2019re part of the system that benefits.\u201dDaniels turned to the Rikers Island jail complex in New York: \u201cI actually worked at Rikers for a while on a research project, so I always feel this connection to it because I\u2019ve been in the buildings. I\u2019ve been on the campus, as it were, for Rikers Island. And you know, I just thought, I mean, it\u2019s a complicated situation, but I just thought, that is a whole system that is built for white women like me, living in Manhattan, to feel safer in the city. It just makes me sick to my stomach and I don\u2019t understand why it\u2019s not making other people sick top their stomach.\u201dAuthor and HuffPo contributor wants to \u201cundo white womanhood and the destructiveness it causes.\u201d She thinks white women feeling \u201csafe in society\u201d is problematic.
