Gavin Newsom (D) wants all adults to receive a booster shot before the holiday season, given concern about declining immunity from shots administered earlier in the year. But as the <em>Chronicle<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/health\/article\/California-wants-all-adults-to-get-booster-shots-16623641.php\">notes<\/a>, the state system is not yet ready:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"24\">\n[M]ost online vaccination scheduling systems \u2014 including the state\u2019s MyTurn appointment site \u2014 still show the specific eligibility categories to receive a booster dose that were in place before state and county officials last week began encouraging booster shots for all.<\/p>\n<p>Those categories follow federal guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The standard says shots are available to those who are 65 and older; people who got the Johnson &amp; Johnson vaccine; and any adult 18 and over with underlying health conditions or who works or lives in a high-risk setting.<\/p>\n<p>People who do not tick one of those boxes are unable to book appointments.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Until the change that\u2019s promised on Wednesday, people using the MyTurn.ca.gov site or clinic attestation forms who do not qualify under the older criteria will have to lie and say they fall into one of the eligible categories to secure an appointment slot.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBooster uptake has been abysmal,\u201d said Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease specialist with UCSF.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2021\/10\/27\/at-oakland-health-clinic-governor-newsom-receives-moderna-booster-encourages-eligible-californians-to-get-their-covid-booster-to-keep-immunity-strong\/\">received<\/a> a booster shot on Oct. 27 to encourage the public to do the same; it was unclear if he fit into a risk group.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
