Many of the biggest businesses in the U.S. have actually expanded their profit margins despite rising wages, supply chain disruptions, and rising shipping costs.<\/p>\n<p>Consumer sentiment has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/11\/12\/consumer-sentiment-crashes-on-bidenflation-worries\/\">crushed<\/a> by declining standards of living and falling real incomes due to high inflation. Small businesses are reeling under the pressure of higher prices and a record 88 percent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/10\/12\/88-of-small-business-owners-hurt-by-supply-chain-disruptions\/\">say<\/a> they\u2019ve been hit by supply chain shortages.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>But for many big businesses with the market power to pass on higher costs and competition from smaller competitors ground down by cost inflation, the good times have continued to roll. Many publicly traded companies have reported \u201cfatter&nbsp;profit margins so far this year than they did over the same stretch of 2019,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/inflation-yellen-biden-price-increase-cost-shipping-supply-chain-labor-shortage-pandemic-11636934826?st=mdop9x9vsoibrh1&amp;reflink=article_imessage_share\">according to the&nbsp;<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly two out of three of the biggest publicly traded companies reported fatter margins than they did before the pandemic, according to Factset data cited by the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>. About 100 of these have raked in more than 50 percent more money in 2019 before the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The large corporate profit margins during an inflationary period are just one more reminder the playing field between the elites and hard-working Americans is uneven.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rising corporate profits could become politically charged as American workers and families are struggling with paying higher prices for everyday necessities, such as rent, gas, and food. Inflation has reached a 30-year-high, giving companies room to dramatically raise prices and profits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrong demand\u2026 has enabled companies to raise prices,\u201d&nbsp;strategist at Deutsche Bank Parag Thatte told the paper.<\/p>\n<p>A few of the massive companies reporting increasing profit margins are Ametek<span class=\"company-name-type\">&nbsp;Inc,&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"company-name-type\">Sleep Number, and&nbsp;Tapestry Inc, which owns the Coach and Kate Spade brands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tapestry\u2019s year-to-date profit margin has jumped to 14.5 percent from 10.7 percent for the same period in 2019, according to the&nbsp;<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>. One way companies pass on higher costs is by keeping \u201cprice discipline,\u201d which is executive-speak for not offering customers as many discounts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Coach, the rise in [prices] isn\u2019t really about inflation,\u201d Coach\u2019s CEO told the <em>Journal<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s about reducing discounting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ametek&nbsp;Inc, an&nbsp;aerospace and medical equipment company, has increased its profit margin to&nbsp;23.4 percent from 22.8 percent in 2019.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cIn the third quarter, our pricing continued to more than offset inflation,\u201d CEO David Zapico said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to stay up ahead of inflation, and I expect that to be true next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sleep Number\u2019s profit margins have also reportedly risen three percentage points since 2019.&nbsp;\u201cEach time we\u2019ve seen this [inflation] build, we\u2019ve taken additional pricing,\u201d&nbsp;finance chief David Callen explained.<\/p>\n<p><em>Follow Wendell Huseb\u00f8 on Twitter&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WendellHusebo?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\"><em>@WendellHuseb\u00f8<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not everyone is feeling squeezed by inflation.
