While the district blamed the request on \u201cthe fatigue that educators and students are experiencing, locally and nationwide, 11 weeks into the return to in-class learning,\u201d a sentiment felt nationwide by parents is that teachers \u201ccare about themselves more than they care about the kids,\u201d per one Pennsylvania parent.<\/p>\n<p>As Breitbart News has extensively reported, many teachers\u2019 unions are sporting lofty demands on districts and the federal government in order to buy teaching services back from pandemic norms.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/09\/23\/exclusive-anthony-fauci-rochelle-walensky-meeting-raises-question-of-outside-influences-on-federal-vaccine-mandate\/\">after<\/a> \u201creceiving threats from the National Education Association (NEA), one of the country\u2019s most powerful teachers\u2019 unions,\u201d the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tightened mask guidance, prompting Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and James Comer (R-KY) to investigate teachers\u2019 unions\u2019 \u201cinfluence\u201d on government pandemic guidance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Similarly, in August, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2021\/08\/08\/weingarten-we-need-to-be-working-with-employers-on-vaccine-mandates-for-teachers\/\">argued<\/a> that her influential organization \u201cneed[s] to be working with our employers, not opposing them, on vaccine mandates and all their vaccine policies\u201d for teachers.<\/p>\n<p>In Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Teachers\u2019 Association in March&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/15\/massachusetts-teachers-unions-push-for-delay-in-return-to-in-school-learning-this-whole-process-is-being-rushed\/\">attempted<\/a> to delay returning to in-person learning unless Gov. Charlie Baker (R) would divert coronavirus vaccine doses away from standard vaccination sites so that teachers could receive the shots in their schools. At the time, Baker said,&nbsp;\u201cI am not going to be in a position where I take vaccine away from people who are extremely vulnerable, have multiple medical conditions and are over the age of 65 to give it to a targeted population. \u2026 We\u2019re just not going to play that game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Fox News points out, vaccine mandates have also been a cause for concern for some teachers, prompting them to leave the profession altogether in order to avoid vaccine coercion.<\/p>\n<p>The demands, however, do not stop at the coronavirus as teacher salary appears to be another potent driver behind shortages. Michigan state superintendent Dr. Michael Rice said, \u201cWe need to re-invest now. We need to rebuild the teacher profession,\u201d according to Fox News, promoting a five-year plan of $300-500 million in recruiting and retaining teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edweek.org\/leadership\/how-bad-are-school-staffing-shortages-what-we-learned-by-asking-administrators\/2021\/10\">according<\/a> to <em>Education Week<\/em>, 15 percent of school district leaders across the country would regard staffing issues as \u201cvery severe,\u201d while 25 percent would rate the shortages as \u201csevere.\u201d Further, only five percent of administrators claim they are not experiencing staffing issues. Forty-eight percent of respondents reported a struggle to find a sufficient number of full-time teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Shortages are not just felt at the teacher level either, as <em>Education Week<\/em> also points out that \u201cslightly more than three-quarters of respondents said they\u2019re having trouble finding enough substitutes to cover teacher absences; 68 percent said bus drivers are hard to come by; and 55 percent said they\u2019re struggling to fill open positions for paraprofessionals and instructional aides.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many are not optimistic about hiring prospects moving forward.
